No Turkey Dinner for me today.

Well shoot. Two or three days ago, I told my daughter that we could go on campus to one of the dorms to have a nice Turkey Dinner today. We could have had turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. She didn't want to go. So then I told her we could go to Denny's. Nope. She didn't want to go there. We could try to see if at least Subway is open. They weren't. Denny's was the ONLY place in town that was open. I figured that there would be a few fast food joints open but there weren't. We wound up going to WalMart and got some salad fixings, some stuff for a jello with strawberries dessert, a pumpkin pie, ice cream, and few other assorted food items. She told me that she would fix us a supper. Well, here it is 5:36pm and she still hasn't started it yet. I would like to have supper before midnight you know!!

It's too bad that your Thanksgiving didn't work out the way you would have liked. Most of the places are closed on Thanksgiving. I know that one from experience, since we had ended up moving over the Thanksgiving holiday a couple years ago. Not one of my boyfriend's better ideas... Of course, the entire "moving to Florida thing" also wasn't one of his better ideas either.

I guess it all depends on the area. I think my second Thanksgiving married a friend of my hubby's from the ship wanted to take us out to eat. Of course that was San Diego and all kinds of things were open. I tried my first clam chowder, but it was Manhattan, I think, anyway, I was not very adventurous way back then, but I enjoyed going out. I am thinking it was probably a Denny's.

You know what, though? I remember the time when NOTHING was open on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Just some gas stations for the traveler. And that would depend on the location, too !!!

Well that doesnt sound like a very fun thanksgiving to me :-( Im actually surprised Dennys was the only thing open. Hopefully you get to eat soon. I just ate at my parents. First time I ate more then 2 bites in 4 days. I was only able to eat because I was around other people and everyone else was eating. When its just me and the kids I dont have enough to distract me from my depression thats keeping me from eating.

I had a turkey dinner today, I took my mum out for a meal and we went to a carvery you can choose the meat, they had pork, beef, gammon and turkey and you help yourself to as much vegetables and potatoes as you can eat. I liked the look of the turkey so I had that with all the trimmings, it was very tasty. We didn't have a dessert because the meal was filling. I hope you managed to get something to eat in the end!

I don't even have a can of Spaghettio's in the house. Actually, we will be going to another town tomorrow to have Thanksgiving dinner. I have no idea what we will be having therer. We are going to visit a friend of ours, my sister, and my Mom this weekend.

Forgive my ignorance but what does turkey symbolizes? I have not eaten turkey in whole life but when I was a kid, I have seen many in my hometown. They are lovely and find it amazing everytime they would open their wings but we avoid going near them as they run after us.

You know, I'm really not sure what the turkey symbolizes here. It might be that it was served at feasts in the early colonial days of the U.S.A.

It doesn't symbolize anything. It isn't even really clear how the turkey rose to prominence on the Thanksgiving menu from the things I've read. My guess would be that it was a cheap food, and there was an abundance of wild turkeys. However, here is an article about the history of the turkey: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2009/11/23/fowl-ball.html Not everyone does turkey. We had tofurkey (a tofu-based food). Some people do ham. I've seen mention of salmon on some of the morning shows (and am completely baffled as to when that trend started).

There are two small colleges in my town. One of them closed the dorm down for like the whole week. I am not sure about the other one. However our community hosts a dinner on Thanksgiving and on Christmas free to anyone. Usually pretty good, and run by volunteers. I am always with some part of my family for Thanksgiving as we have four family members with birthdays that week and one earlier. Huge family party every time.

Sorry you did not get turkey dinner today. I got leftovers because I had to work and it was not very much. I am not sure how old your daughter is but she could of at least let you have some turkey and fixins even if she did not want to eat. In my town I know that Mcdonalds was open and I know the place I worked at had there deli and hot case open. Hopefully next year we will both be able to have thanksgiving dinner.

My daughter and I did have a Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. We had lamb, mashed lumpy potatoes and gravy, peas, rolls, and pecan and pumpkin pies. It was a very tasty meal.

Well if it makes you feel any better my family lives very far away and I have nobody to spend my Thanksgiving with. I plan to spend the day alone with my dog and eat this lack luster frozen pizza.

When my daughter and I were at WalMart, I thought about getting a couple of frozen turkey dinners but didn't. So far, my daughter has fixed a salad with lettuce, carrots, and salad dressing. Hopefully, that is just the appetizer. LOL

I don't know your daughter but I think maybe it would be necessary for a talk between you both. And when you prepair the dinner together she might have fun too.
