I hate to go home now...

I know that it's going to be dark, hot, and so uncomfortable to go home to a house without any power. You know already that we'd been hit by super typhoon Pablo and until now, we still do not have any electricity at home. This means no internet, no TV, no lights, no electric fan. I am now in an internet cafe and I don't feel like going home because of the situation above. I heard that electricity in our place will be back by Monday yet. Oh no. I hope this is not true. Have you ever been in this situation?

Actually, I have. Our house got submerged in floods during Typhoon Ondoy (International name, Ketsana) back in 2009. We lost a lot of our furniture, our car, electrical appliances, and yes...electricity. And then it happened to us again in August of this year during the "habagat" floods. But here I am, still alive and kicking

HI Mis. That was a horrible experience you went through. We still have everything intact, except for the power which had been cut off since Monday and it is already Friday.

Hello there! Yes, I am also from the Philippines. Everything is fine with me. I was not at all affected by the latest typhoon because I live in metro manila. Those who were badly affected were the provinces in the southern part of the country. I hope that things normalize and stabilize for them too.

I can understand why you are feeling so.I too don't like to remain at home when electric supply is cut.Such a situation had come in my life when the transformer near my place had burst. It resulted in a week long power cut in my locality and also the locality adjacent to ours.It was the time when we didn't have a computer. We had only a tv then and we could not watch it because of power cut.I too did not like to go home then.Remaining confined within four walls was really terribly boring.

Absolutely right. If there is darkness everywhere, you go back to the prehistorical ages when men didn't know how to light fire.

I have been in areas where we have lost power, though it has never lasted long and never for more than a day. Usually the power outages are because of high winds, rain, or something similar. We have never been in a typhoon, they are not common in the United States. We live in the Midwest (middle of the USA). On the outer edges of the USA, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia they experience Hurricanes. In California they experience earthquakes. I feel sadly for all the people living in the Philippines that have gone through this disaster. I hope your power will be on again soon, and I hope you stay safe.

Hi friend, sad to hear about your situation, it is really hard to live without electricity. But spending too much of time in internet cafe will be very expensive. You are in need to go home. Hope the electricity problem will be solved soon and you will get the power as soon as possible, my wishes for it

yes I have face this situation couple of years ago. what a terrible situation that was. My GOD i don't even want to imagine that. We didn't get electricity nearabout 15 days and obviously no TV,no Net. So, imagine what the hell it was. But true is that, you don't have anything to do against natural matters.

I definitely hated having to go home but for an entirely different reason. I was in an abusive relationship at the time and I had to escape for my own sanity, trouble is I had no where to go, apart from home, which meant going back to my parents home. Now I love my mother, but it's my father I do not like, in fact I can honestly say that I hate him, so I had no choice, circumstances dictated it was either live with my ex or move back home under my father's roof.

I live in San Mateo, Rizal and though we aren't affected by floods, we did experience week long blackouts during those times that strong storms affected Manila. The two worst storms were Milenyo and Ondoy. On those two occasions, we had no power for over a week since we live in the mountainous parts of Rizal. And of course, with Milenyo almost all of Metro Manila experience the blackout and of course Meralco had to service the city first before moving out to the neighboring cities. Because of these black outs, I had to change my refrigerator because it conked out due to the numerous power outages. Even with smaller or weaker storms, we would not have power for a day or two. Our subdivision was fairly new at that time, and this was one of the reasons why when a storm would come, we would have no power. And because of those week long power outages, I had an expensive pet fish die because it's oxygen or aerator could not work because of no power. But still, I am thankful because we only experienced power outages. My heart goes out to those whose families have been wiped out by the flash floods. So for me, knowing how it was to have no power for a week, I still say it's nothing to what the typhoon victims are experiencing now.

Never have I been without power for so long. The longest was one time for about 7 hours. The worst was when I had my cafe and all my food had to be thrown out. That was in a different state to where I'm living now. I live in a rural area and it can take the guys hours just finding out where the power lines have broken but it's never more than 5 hours at the most and usually less. My stove is gas so I can cook and make coffee and my laptop has a battery and so does my portable DVD player. Also, I always have a torch and I like to take these opportunities to catch up on my reading. Strangely, it's usually late afternoon or evening when our power goes out.

Now I understand why you don't like going home. But try to think about the positive way, at least you can see your family there. And you shall have more time to speak with each other since there is no TV, computer etc. to interrupt all of you. Try to enjoy this peaceful moment and I hope the electricity will be back to your place soon. After all, the life is quite inconvenient without the electricity.

Since I was live here in Manila, I never experience such disaster. I really feel sorry to victims of the calamities. This is a terrible thing and hope everything is going smooth. I hope the government will all the resources they have to help those victims. Be brave enough friend just a little patient and I hope the government will extent their arms to help you there. I wish those government officials that instructed to handle the situation will not take advantage on the relief good and deliver to the needy.

I was out of electricity in the middle of the winter. I stayed in my bed for nearly 2 days straight. Work was closed because they didn't have power either. The house was frozen cold. And I didn't have anything to do anyway. So I just stayed in bed. I got in my car and drove around the area for a little while, not to go anywhere, but just to do something. But when I got back, my bed was frozen solid too. Not fun.

I think the longest time that we have encountered power interruption was 48 hours. And it is really difficult especially sleeping at night! Good thing that there was water and that became our means of taking off the heat. I literally had to take 3-4 showers in a day just to cool off.

I once experienced this during a storm. I was coming home from another province and was greeted by floods who soaked through my shoes and all the lights in the house are off. Thank god we have some candles over. I didn't notice when the light came back on (it was probably the next day) because i was out like a light n 30 minutes. Besides, what else is to do when there's power out but sleep. I guess sleep is the best consolation I had in that situation.

I suggest you under such situation you should not remain away from your house. Knowing what is being happen (typhoon) your family members will get worried about you if you do not reach home in time. Keep in mind you can surf the internet tomorrow also but better reach home which be safe also.

Fortunately I have never been in a situation like that for that period of time. That really would be awful. I hope that your electricity comes back sooner.
