voice of a devil. When I was in a certain country, I used to play musics in my flat. Then one of my neighbor knocked on my door. As I opened the door, she suddenly told me that if I listen to a music, the devil is whispering to you. Is there a certain religion that oppose against music?

There are groups within certain religions that hold such beliefs. For instance, some Muslims oppose music. However, they are a tiny minority. I would have been tempted to invite the neighbor in and tell her that I was just preparing the altar for worship. Of course, depending on the country, that may have ended quite badly... I have come to the conclusion that, given my sensibilities and sense of humor, there are just some parts of this world that I am better off not visiting--and that includes some parts of my own country.

It's not the religion that opposes it. There is a small handful of people within the religion that oppose it. I've never actually known anyone of any religious stripe who opposed music across the board; I have, however, known some people who thought that certain types of music were "evil." I would add that all of those people were Christians.

Wow that's something new to me. Really.. I haven't met people with such belief yet. But in my belief, elders just tell me to be aware of lyrics. Just in case there are songs that shows idolatry to Satanism, then I am instructed to stop listening to those songs..

I heard the news about the Satanic type of lyrics, but we have the power to stop idolizing such kind of music.

Wow, that is a new one on me, I have never heard of anyone saying that before, what music were you playing, do you remember? Maybe your neighbour was being totally paranoid or spaced out at the time. Or unless it was her way of saying that she didn't like your taste in music!

While growing up I was told that certain bands were bad, that if you played their records backwards you heard things, but as long as you have God in your life I think things like that won't hurt you.

I never heard of this one too. I mean if that is the case them how can we have so many famous bands of music didn't the devil whisper to them. No offence meant. I agree there are so many beliefs around the world but what i believe is there should be some base for anything. It should be believable . But some are not like that.

I do agree, we do have favorites in terms of music genre. Not listening to it is unusual.

That is total BS. I don't see the logic in that. Listening to music is just liike eating food to people. It's just natural to listen to music. There are like millions of people around the world listening to music at this moment and ti couldn't be that devils are whispering to them.

I have heard of people like this, they must also not believe in angels since they do A LOT of singing.. Next time that happens, crank this video up, the lyrics are under the video, and one of our favorites: http://youtu.be/xbC8dlgHBIw

As far as i known, no major great religion forbid you listen to music, or against music, except Taliban regime. Your neighbor may have guided by the devil to confuse your mind, it is her that has a problem with the music, not any major religion in the world, may be she should belog to the mental ward, not living next to you.

Not its not. Gosh my parents (thank goodness they've calmed down a little) used to say crap like that when we were kids. We weren't even allowed to watch our favorite cartoons anymore because some tv preacher wrote book suggesting that they were all of the devil. Its a mixture of mental illness and people with no minds of their own. Next time tell this woman to listen to the actual lyrics before jumping to such a conclusion or in a really creepy voice say "Oh I know. Now be quite so I can hear my lord Satan."

I also heard that some Muslim people consider the music as a sin. I also watched a movie in which they have shown the Muslim people opposing it. In spite of all this there are some huge Muslim Celebrities who work in the Bollywood industry and are listened everywhere. So I don't think all people(Muslim) oppose music but there are only few.

Ow, really? That belief is something new with me. I don't believe that. I think it depends to someone that has a different religion. Playing music is something stress free most especially when we play the solemn one.

I know there were sects of Christianity for a while that felt that any music except church music and ANY kind of dancing were the works of the Devil, but I didn't think those beliefs were still around.

Well, I know the baptist religion prohibits dancing ,but I think that they still listen to music. The only religion that comes to my mind is the Islam religion. Well, I'm catholic and for us music is food for the soul. As long as music does not include violence and profanity it should be okay for most religions.
