paying attention

All of us here in the USA are effected by the killing of people in Conn. So I thought I would pass along something I read. When terrible things happen, look around and notice the HELPERS. I felt this was so true, no matter what the situation if we pay attention we will find sometimes in ourselves but always outside ourselves, people who step up to help. Blessings are everywhere, we just need to notice. No matter how hard we try most things are outside our control, but we can control how we react. The sorrow is there but joy is there also if we will only look.

Hi savypat, I love the way you put this and it is very true. There are always those who step up to help, no matter the situation. Yes, there is sadness but lets also look at the goodness of people around us. Blessings.

I agree it's the people that go the 'extra mile' without reward or extra payment, but to think about others and even the smallest kindest gesture is welcomed. I read that there was a US study which found that people who volunteered regularly over a lifetime lived significantly longer than those who didn't volunteer or step up and helped. These helpers also experienced less depression, fewer pains and better general health, interesting study which makes perfect sense. Helpers may not always be rewarded or noticed, however, the study is right they will benefit in other ways.
