Are you afraid?

It is nice to see when one's stars rise and this is fully in the hands of users.Negative rating is given when there is flaming, rudeness or anything that goes against the myLot community. Some users, however, are known to rate negative if there is a disagreement with their views although that is not right. A discussion becomes a discussion when one's views are expressed whether they go with the OP or not. Are you afraid to disagree and just go with the OP so that you are not rated negative?

If I have to disagree, I will do that, but I will not rate the person negative. We all have opinions and should voice it in a manner not to hurt the other person.

I agree we should say our opinion but in a polite way . Any discussion always have both positive and negative views and that's common everywhere.

It is important that we do not hurt anyone here. Disagreeing makes a discussion interesting and triggers further thoughts in the minds of the users making the discussion worthwhile. Rating one negative just because the user did not agree is unfair. On the contrary such users should be appreciated.

No, I am not afraid to say what I really think. I don't come on here very often anymore but do occasionally pop in just to see what is happening. Who cares about the star rating anyway? Does it really serve any significant purpose? I agree that it is either misused or misunderstood by a good percentage of the people on here. Whatever, it doesn't mean anything to me...

There have been murmurs here when stars have toppled. I too have felt it specially when none of those things such as flaming, insulting or being rude have been involved. We need to respect, according to me, the existence of this system and getting bothered is in order, surely! At the same time if anything can be done to ensure that this system is not misused could go a long way. Nice to see you after ages!

In a way you are right. Many have made this system insignificant by its misuse. This is a virtual world and even here people act as though they know the users inside out!

Nice to "see" you too allknowing. I don't think I have ever given anyone a negative rating. Perhaps if I were involved in a discussion that became rude or insulting I would give a negative rating. I don't lend much credence to the rating system however as I think that too many people have rendered it insignificant through misuse.

I think you should know how I interact by this time.I am not at all afraid to disagree if it concerns my issue but regarding another person's personal issue or some subjective issues I would not have too strong an opinion after all.If it is an objective topic then I would not mind expressing my disagreement.

Yes kala. There are many here who would not hesitate to put their point across even if it went against another user's thinking. It is only then there would be 'meat' for a possible long drawn discussion. I have readily agreed with you and possibly ended this conversation?

Hi I agree we should not give negative rating for those who dont agree , its a discussion and everyone express their views whether positive or negative both these makes a discussion not just a positive one. I dont give negative rating to anyone. If they dont to my point then they have their point which i should see and analyse whether thats possible or not. This is the actual point of a discussion we can get to see a point from different angels.

It would be nice to know why one gets a negative vote just as why a discussion is reported. But I suppose that will be too much to handle. When one agrees a discussion ends there!

Whenever I am not amenable on the opinion presented, I would present my side in a nice manner so as to avoid argument. Even if I don't agree, so much so, even if somebody does not agree with my opinion I will not rate him/her negatively. Have a nice day!

But from a logical conclusion it does seem possible that users do rate others negative based on other reasons and not on parameters such as flaming, being rude,or anything that is said against the community. There is a tendency to avoid arguments and so readily agree with the OP making a discussion boring and substance-less. This one must avoid. That's the way to go ARIES rating negative just because someones does not agree defeats the very purpose of having a discussion.

it's takes me a long time to finish a response or comment because i will keep rewriting it to avoid misunderstanding. i have always believed that we can disagree without being disagreeable. but sometimes, even if you've worded it as carefully as you can, if the other party refuses to budge in their view, you will still be told, directly or indirectly, that you're wrong, incorrect, uninformed, one-sided, etc. to me discussions that have more than a collection of "you're right, that's true, i agree" are more interesting. even if i'm just reading and not participating in them, i still learn something from them, if not the topic itself, then about the members themselves or where they are from.

I know no one likes disagreements if they kick off dust but there are several ways in which one can disagree in a pleasant manner. You can do it too! But the tendency to rate one negative just because there is a disagreement needs to be discouraged.

The fluctuation of stars tell a different story specially of those who never hurt, flame, insult or go against the myLot community. I have seen it happening to me. Through this discussion I wish users will know how to go about it.

No, I am not afraid to go disagree with the person that is making the discussion. Either way, I put what I feel in each discussion I respond to. Whether it agrees with them or not. I do agree that people should rate the mylot users based on if they are following the reviews and if they are rude or not and not because they do not agree with your discussion. I rate on how people are following the rules and that's it.

No. I am not afraid to disagree. It is better to tell the truth, but as for me, I don't rate negative even though they are rude. I don't know why. I just understand them of what they feel. Maybe they have their own reason.

The rating system here, many a time, is not what it should really be.Knowing one's own performance it is easy to guess when someone gets negatively rated, irrationally. If everyone followed the rules there would be many happy 'faces' here!

True. I was rate negatively. My 94 became 93. I don't know who did that. Anyway, maybe our rating does not effect our earnings and so, I just ignore it.

Not really.. i just express my opinion, as politely as i ca.. I am not really scared to get a negative rating, although i do get upset when my star rating goes down and turns a different color.. And when that happens i try my best to raise it back up.

Those negative ratings for those who follow rules here are mostly because of those who have not understood the system. They will give negative ratings to those who do not agree with them. This discussion I hope will atleast contribute in some way and those indulging in this practice will cease doing it.

Breaking rules and violating guidelines can mess up this place. I am amazed how meticulously this site is churned out and if users go by the rules it would be a joy to be here for one and all.

Yes, i hope it really does contribute.. and those people who just rate down other's for the wrong reasons should read this discussion. So they would know what they are doing wrong. Some new members do not even bother to read the guidelines.. it's sad.

I am not afraid of my rating going down. I have disagreed with the OP before and nothing happened to my rating so hopefully it won't ever happen to me. Then again, there are only certain people that I deal with here and I don't think any of y'all would be that way at all towards me...

Good for you LMB. Many of those who indulged in rating users negative, for the wrong reasons, have left and some I do find are still doing the rounds here. After constantly educating them, there could be better awareness now.

I don’t rate a discussion which is out of the context as a negative rating, because we do have our own views on certain subjects/context. Although there really replied posts which is way out of the context, it I do appreciate their participation regardless of their out of the context. However, if such posted discussions have a replied that is offensive and did violate the terms over the site, then that is the time that I rated a negative mark on such posted reply.

Guidelines clearly state what calls for a negative rating but because there is no restriction and they are not checked some give a negative rating just because someone does not agree. Even if someone has not understood the topic, as you say, it is not right to rate that person negative. If you lose a star and you have not done anything wrong then it is clear that someone has rated you negative for the wrong reasons.

You have a point there, probably such people just don't want others to be credited on what they contribute here regardless if it's a great reply or a common reply. Thanks for your response.

Mylot should ask you for a reason why why give a - rating and if you give more - then + and if a user abuses the - rating then they receive a warning or ban. Internet bulling is pathetic.

No one knows who rates and how. It would be nice really if that was known or Admin told us if we asked, specially when we see something unusual.
