What do you do when you can't sleep?

I was trying to take a nap a little while ago while my daughter was laying down. But I was able to go to sleep so I decided to get a snack and do some mylotting. I think that I'm going to try to go to sleep early tonight. Even though I often feel like I will miss getting something done. I have to remind myself that we can't work all the time. When my daughter lays down for her nap tomorrow I'm going to lay down at the same time that way hopefully my mind will have time to slow down and I can sleep.

Nice topic to discuss. If I can't sleep, I turned on my TV and watching movies while drinking milk. Drinking a lot of milk before go sleep can be helpful for easy to get sleep.

I will have to try that. I rarely drink milk before going to bed. But if it will help me get some rest I will have to try it. I hope that it will work for me because I need to get my rest. I'm so far behind in rest I'm surprised I have passed out at some point.

I use to have a lot of trouble going to sleep when I was on nights. Now I try to keep to the same routine, and I am fine. I always have the radio on, seeing as there are so many people in the house, and we all have our seperate routines. I try to relax, and take a little extra time to lay down and think of everything that happened, or worries me as I would just keep me awake.

Yeah I'm sure that with having so many people in the house it would be necessary to have some sort of routine that helps with sleeping. Usually in our home at the time when I'm trying to sleep it is very quiet. And my daughter is asleep and yet I still have a heard time falling asleep and it drives me crazy. I will have to work at not thinking about all that is going on or that I have to do.

i pray or play a game. i pick a topic and go through the alphabet and pick a word related to that topic that corresponds with that letter. ie if i picked bands, the first word would be ABBA, the second would be Boston, the third would be Cream, etc. it does help me fall asleep most of the time.

I'm glad that games help you fall asleep. I will work on praying more often before and I hope this will help me to be calm. Sometimes when I pray I do fall asleep because I have so many things to say and talk about. But I think it's important that I end my prayer before I fall asleep.

I usually read and that makes me sleepy enough to get to sleep. I used to have problems falling asleep until I started reading more. I just lay down and pick up a book and pretty soon I am tired enough to drop off. Even if its just to take a nap.

I'm glad to hear that reading helps you to sleep. For me reading usually causes my mind to start going and I will start to think about all types of things that are happening in the book. What the people are like the beautiful surroundings, etc. I think that I will have to try laying down a little bit earlier to get comfortable and see if that will help.

Sleeping is essential to our mind and heath. You can't call yourself health (even if you take vitamins) if you can't sleep well.... When I can't sleep, I usually read a book that is not so interesting just to make my eyes tired. As soon as i feel that I'm already sleepy, I close the book and got to bed right away.

I agree with you that sleeping does a lot for our body. I really do need to get more sleep. I'm working on laying down a little earlier now. I'm sure that sleeps helps our body to function properly in so many ways through out the day. I'm glad to hear that reading a book helps you to go to sleep.

It depends on the reason. There are times I feel too cold to sleep so I have to change that before I can. There are times I am way too tired to sleep and the only thing I can do is stay in bed and hope or tell myself that sooner or later (days later) I will sleep again. There are times my mind keeps busy so I tell myself I will deal with it later (write it down). There are times it helps to think about happy things, the blessings I have (counting them).. I do the same when I am in a lot of pain or just try to shut out my mind.. if it's blanco it's easier to bear. Before I did get out of bed, do some housekeeping etc but I don't do that anymore since it only tires me out more if the day starts. If possible I go back to bed at day time but it's seldom possible pity enough.

I will have to start reminding myself that I will take care of the things that are on my mind later. My mind constantly goes when I'm trying to go to sleep. Of all the things that I didn't get done and what needs to be done. But I will keep working at it because we all need to get rest.

If my son is asleep and I had hoped to nap, but did not, I will do some cleaning, surveys, and mylot; things my son would not be too interested in. Late night, I will read, go on facebook, answer a few on mylot and catch up on email. Hope you are able to get some rest in!

Thanks! It sounds like your schedule is similar to mine. I try to get as much done as I can online. It is the extra way that I earn income for our home. So I try to get things done with this first if I can't sleep. I hope though that sometime soon I will be able to get into a better schedule of going to sleep earlier. Right now I have to catch up on some financial goals and then hopefully I will feel more comfortable with getting more rest.

If i can't sleep i'll play with my cellphone or go internet like FB and do emails, and mylot too... Ya if your daughter will sleep you get a nap too, it's the only time you have a rest.

@Igatiful it is good that we have technology that we can do these types of things when we can't sleep. Then we can feel productive instead of tossing and turning. Yeah I really do need to sleep when my daughter is. I hope that your day at mylot is going good.

@ryanong I do agree that if we stare at our phone for awhile before going to sleep it does make us tired. I will have to remind myself to do that. Perhaps I will have to try look at pictures because if I surf the internet I will more than likely find something I want to buy.

ah, recently i can connect to the internet by using cellphone, before sleeping i often surfing internet 20 minutes then my eyes are tired, i can sleep easily...

Hi Dominique! I usually sleep at 10 pm and if for some instances, I did not sleep on time, most likely, I will find it hard to have a good sleep. So what I do is I would drink a glass of warm milk before going to bed. Have a nice day!

I others say to drink warm milk as well. I will have to give this a try. As well as going to bed early. I can't remember the last time I went to bed that early. I hope to start improving my sleep schedule soon. It is health for us to get our rest.

Haha ! If i can't sleep i would be the happiest then because i can do Mylotting until dusk , by then i would drop to bed without any effort of forcing my eyes to close. There are times when we want to sleep but our eyes won't cooperate no matter how we tried , so we end up wasting time , why not make it productive , get up and move those hands. You type , you earn !

@angelpink I'm glad to hear that you would be happy about it. There are so many things that can be done on mylot. I often have to remind myself that there are other things I need to get done. So I try to set a goal for each day at mylot. After that goal is reached then I have to stop. I completely agree I would rather be productive than waste time tossing and turning.

@ryanong yeah many of us enjoy staying up late at mylot. And we don't have to feel bad about it when we can't sleep. Might as well use or time wisely. Unfortunately though if I don't take a nap while my daughter is sleeping then it makes my afternoon and evening feel longer when I have to go to work as well.

I usually do some activities that make my body tired such as doing work out, or cleaning the house so that it will eventually put my body into a tiring stage. Also, drinking milk and relaxing with the lights dim helps you sleep.

Yeah I agree with you. It is a good idea to do some work that will get us tired. It's nice to get cleaning done when we can't sleep. We feel productive and it will save us time from having to do cleaning work later in the day or for the next day.

When I cannot sleep I just lie awake on my bed until I fall asleep. I take the time to do some thorough thinking and do a little prayer as well.

I'm glad to hear that you just relax,think, and pray. I enjoy praying as well. I usually though end up getting up and doing something around the house. That way I get it done then and hopefully don't have to do anything else as far as cleaning for the rest of the day or will shorten my cleaning time for the next day.

I try to focus my thoughts to one thing-peace/sleep/something or someone that would put my thoughts and feelings at rest. It's because most of the time, even though I feel totally beat down, I can't sleep because my mind is full and racing with (random) thoughts.

I'm agree I feel the same way. I'm usually tired and from all that I had to do that day but my mind just keeps going. There are still a ton of other things that I need to get done but my mind just will not rest. I'm to try a lot of the suggestions that others have given and work on laying down earlier. I hope that all of these things combined will help me.

When I can't go to sleep I usually close my eyes and think about good things that have happened or what I would like to happen. I in-vision it in my mind and usually the happy thoughts put me to sleep.

That is a great. I need to work on that. Even though I feel like my life is very stressful right now I know that I can work on that more. There are plenty of good things that happen to us that we should think about. We just need to remind ourselves of them and not overly think of negative things. Sometimes we get side tracted by all that the world encourages us to focus on.

i watch TV, put on a dvd or just write till i am tired and eyelids are heavy usually more often i just watch TV till i fall asleep and TV is still on

I agree that writing does make us tired. I wonder why that is. I will have to try writing in my journal before going to sleep. Hopefully that will help me fall asleep. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it. Hope your day is going well at mylot.

When i can't sleep i just do chores till i am tired and want to sleep again. However, i hate a feeling when i can't sleeping...that's why i always try to sleep on time, at 11-12pm. and when i go to sleep, i don't think anything else..everything should be solved tomorrow

That is a good thing to do. I feel productive when I can't sleep and I get chores done. There is often always something to do around the house. If I get it done while i'm not tired I feel better.

Whenever I find it hard to sleep at night, i would read a boring book. Like...busines statistics books. If that didn't work, I will drink a cup of warm milk and listen to some soothing music.

I will to try those to things. Especially the warm milk. That will taste soothing and I hope it will help me get some rest. My sleep schedule is so crazy that I have to get back on track. I have been working on laying down earlier. Hopefully these multiple things combined with help.

Sometimes when all my chores are already done and when my son is still sleeping I will also take a nap.. but there are times I can't sleep so what I do is I grab my cellphone or tablet to read or surf the internet and after a few minutes I will get sleepy... it really needs for us to get a enoungh sleep and rest so we can have energy for all the things we are doing..

I'm glad to hear that when you start to surf the internet it makes you feel sleepy. We do need sleep. I hope that my sleep schedule will improve. Right now it is so off. I will have to try and work on it and find a balance to my schedule. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it.

Because you are not used to go to bed early that is why you are having problem regarding sleeping. And all you need to do is make a habbit of sleeping early and slowly and gradually you will get used to it. You can try reading books while you are in a bed and that is the best option for get to sleep. By reading books you will make sure that your mind will not be roaming here and there which is a big reason why people can't sleep early.

That is a good point you make. My sleep schedule is so crazy. And my body is not use to go to sleep early. I definitely agree with you that I will have to start working on going to sleep earlier. This will be a healthy change for me as well. So it's a win win situation even though I would feel like I'm not getting everything done.

Sleeping is the finest assets which we got from the nature. After having sound sleep, we just feel a type of peace,relaxation. But sometime we will not able to sleep due to different reasons . Sometime its cause is mental where as sometime physical. Whatever is the reason but it is so hard. When i can't sleep i start to play games on my mobiles and slowly i feel to sleep.

Sleeping truly is wonderful. I hope that soon I will be able to get back into a healthy routine of sleep. Right now my sleep schedule is so crazy. I'm sure that it is affecting my health in a negative way. I'm glad to hear that playing games on your mobile helps you to go to sleep.
