Awesome Birthday Cake!!!

Hubby and I went to Mom & Dave's today for my birthday. A few days ago I posted a discussion on here about my mother being upset about the cost of the cake, but somehow even more upset when we offered to pay for it ourselves! LOL Hubby and I both wanted a black forest cake. Of course it would have been up to me, whether he wanted one or not, but it is his favourite as much as mine, so even better. We got one at our favourite bakery. Then Mom informed us that at a nearby grocery store that also does good work they have them at half the cost. Of course when we ordered the cake, she'd said they were out at that store. However, now that we KNOW that the grocery store carries them on a regular basis, there will be no problem next year, and I'll get a yummy black forest cake every year. Awesome! :) The cake was wonderful, and EVERYBODY LOVED IT! Eventually Mom came around to the idea that it didn't cost her a cent, and so she REALLY enjoyed it! :)

I would want to try the one from the grocery store before I decided to go with them, but if it is just as good and only half the cost that might save hurt feelings in the future. I trust that this has been a wonderful day.

I don't like that. That she complained to you about the cost of your own birthday cake. I know people would say, well, she's your mom. And like you said, you offered to pay for it. But that just seems kind of insensitive. I doubt it hurt your feelings considering you don't seem the type to take it the wrong way. I'm just glad you got the cake you wanted. I missed the discussion about the cost of the cake because I've been gone, but most importantly, I'm not getting my notifications so I'm missing a whole lot of people's discussions.

Cake are awesome to have especially the birthday cakes. They are the new ones which are baked according to your needs. Anyway I am glad to know that you had good pretty moments on your B'day. May god bless you to have such wonderful moments in your life.

I am sure this turned out to be a lovely day. It is interesting that she got upset because you offered to buy the cake. Maybe she felt she needed to do it since it was your birthday? But it does look like a nice cake, and hope you enjoyed your day.

Yummy! My favorite is German Chocolate. It's been a while since I had a birthday cake though. I usually spend my birthday with a friend of mine whose husband and I share birthday dates. We usually get a Dairy Queen Ice cream cake! You are very lucky!

Hiya DC,
Looks so good that I can imagine myself eating it right now even though I don´t have any here.
However I can imagine the taste of it because I have eaten it before and it really was very nice.
Been ages since I have had the chance to eat it and the next time I get round to seeing that kind of cake I will eat a huge piece of it to make up for all the time I have not been able to have any of it.

Yes, black forest cakes are very good. I'm glad that you and your family enjoyed the cake. The name black forest is awesome for such a yummy cake. The local bakery back at my hometown sells black forest cake and luckily at a very reasonable price. The bakery also help you write a name and a message in icing free of charge. I remember my graduation cake, they drew a graduation cap in icing at my mother's request. It was pretty and delicious.
