hi friends. just recently i bought a computer and having not much of a problem anyway. the thing is my computer has 2 USB ports but unfortunately they are being used for mouse and keyboard. now whenever i connect my pendrive or data card i either have to sacrifice the mouse or keyboard. i usually choose the mouse but i would like to know if there any other way i can use my pendrive without unplugging the mouse and keyboard.

Hi stardustcdsd. It is strange how you computer has just two ports where there minimum 4 ports available or 6. 4 at the back of the CPU and 2 in the front of the CPU. Have you checked it properly? If you still don't have you can call the guy who fixes computer and ask them to fix a new or two USB ports for your CPU. It can be done, you can fit in new USB ports in your CPU. If still not, there comes a board where there are ports in it, you just have to fit in with your CPU connect it and then you can use them easily. Hope this helps.

There are a couple of things that you can do to avoid this. As the previous response to this discussion mentioned you can attach a USB hub. This is a small adapter that plugs into the USB port and provides extra ports. A small 4 port hub will be quite cheap and will leave you with a couple of spare ports. If there is space in your computer then you add a USB card to the motherboard, which would provide a few more ports at the front or back.

Simply use a multi port hub then or use ps/2 keyboard and mouse

This is a very stupid design of this computer. Especially it is not an old computer. They should think about the USB ports since today many devices connect the computer with the USB. Even if my old computer has 6 USB ports. I suggest you buy the USB hub. After all, it is not expensive. But make sure you buy the good quality USB hub since the poor one can't support the big storage of portable hard disk.

Stupid design really, maybe he missed the other ports. Mainboard USB alone has a standard 4 ports at the back and two up front making it six. He should try peeking at the back of the casing and they should be there.

you can add more USB with USB Hub, you can find it in store. Great even if you have 4 plugs in USB hub. Typically, handy USB Hub connecting a mouse, keyboard, flasdisk, and digital camera. So, the problem in limited plugs could be solved.

Its the easiest way dealing with limited usb ports without opening the case,,, But if you use it for transferring big files it will become really slow...

Ps check also the backside of your computer. Just remembered that mine has 2 in the front but also 2 at the back. And that computer is over 8 years old.

Why don't you go for a USB hub? You can easily get one through a computer or hardware store. It would be better enough if you acquire it from the same place where you bought your computer. I have four USB drives on my laptop. But still I am facing a similar problem. Two ports are to the right and two are to the left. The ports to the right are one below the other. I plug mouse and keyboard there. The ports to the right are next to each other. These ports are so close to each other that there isn't space enough to plug to things at a time. I plug my USB modem in one of these ports. Now, when I have to use my pendrive, I cannot use any port - all are full. I have to do the same thing like you. I remove the keyboard as there is one to the laptop already. My work doesn't get stalled, but I have to plug and unplug the keyboard each time. As I rarely have to do this, I haven't gone for a USB hub, or then I use Bluetooth for data transfer too.

Well what you know one USB port can support upto 125 devices, so to take advantage of this try buying an external USB connector that has multi ports they you can plug in 125 different divices to your system.
