Dreaming of Norway...

United States

I'm sitting here watching an old episode of Rick Steves' Europe that I'd DVR'ed. It is looking at Norway's West. Yesterday, I was watching an episode about Oslo. Norway has been on my mind a lot recently--even beyond these couple of episodes of a travel show. Every time I see the landscape of Norway on the television screen, I get the overwhelming urge just to go there. Of course, I can't just pack up and hop on over for a week or two--money considerations and various responsibilities prevent that. Do you have a place like that? One that is just calling to you to come visit?

It is a place I have always been partial to. Yes Norway is it for me.

I wish that I could stay firsthand that I know that Norway is a place for me, considering how long ago I posted this. Unfortunately, I've still not managed to make it to there. So many other things have served to distract from that goal during these past few years.

@RebeccasFarm Actually, the pandemic has given me renewed impetus to go. I'm just timing it until there is a good, safe opening to do so. That will come; it just may take another 6+ months.

@wilsongoddard And now with the situation of the world it may be impossible to. I understand. I am sure not going anywhere due to poverty at the very least. I hope one day you may see it. For now I can watch movies of it.

Norway is a nice place, I had the opportunity to visit it during my childhood. We went there on holidays I think twice or three times and I loved it. Even Sweden is a very nice country. I would like to visit China and India.

Whenever I make it to Europe, I think that it will have to be a long enough vacation there so that I can also go visit some of its neighbors as well. I would like to visit India at some point, but Europe is my focus right now. My boyfriend has been to several European countries, but I've never been. He went as a child, though; so, this would be quite a different experience going back as an adult who has since traveled to other parts of the world.

It doesn't if it's during the childhood or already as an adult, travelling abroad is always a big experience. I had the chance to travel a bit, but it was inside Europe only, I never went to the USA or Asia. So as an european, I am more interested on the other side of the globe. Hopefully, you will be able come to visit Europe, it has many nice places too, not only Norway.

Many times in life, there are places like this. Places I seem to be always thinking about, but like you said, you cannot just pack up a bag andgp there. Especially when it is quite a ways away. But if these are dream places you're really wanting to see and visit, then finding ways to save up and plan for it would really make these thoughts even better. Just need to decide how important these are for you.

I have other things that are greater priorities right now. However, once we meet some of the "big" goals I have set out, we should have room within our budget for being able to just travel when we really want to go somewhere. However, that won't be for several more years.

When I was 18 years old I traveled around Europe on an Inter Rail ticket. Norway was one of the countries that I visited on that. I found it to be a very beautiful country but it was very expensive. I went to Oslo and found it interesting. The train journey over to Bergen via Flam was spectacular. I traveled on a train through lovely Sweden crossing over the line of the Arctic Circle. Wow! I loved visited Narvik and even went up a mountain. I am dreaming of Eastern Europe.

The ease of travel from one country to another is one of the things that I like about Europe. I still would not rule out my boyfriend and I eventually moving to Europe--likely Scotland or England. However, that wouldn't be for another few years most likely.

There's lot of places waiting for me. At least I hope they're waiting for me, and don't disappear before I get to go there :-) I live in the middle of Norway but haven't really travelled that much in my own country. I'd like to see western Norway, but I think northern Norway, especially Lofoten, seems even nicer. More specifically, I'd like to go to Røst in the middle of April, go out in a boat and wait for the arrival of the puffins. Half a million arrives at the same time. The problem is that it is not always on the same day, so you might have to wait for some days and it is difficult to combine that with work. Not sure my school would be too happy if I took a week off to sit in a boat up north. But one year, I'll have to. Maybe a year when Easter's really late.

That sounds like it would be worth a week out on a boat. I've traveled quite a bit in the U.S., but there are still quite a few states I haven't gotten to yet. The thing about living in a large, sprawling country is that it makes it more of a challenge to visit all of the places one would like to go.

I have a friend living in Norway and she shares a lot of pictures in there places. Really amazing and I told myself that someday I will visit this place. For now, I wanted to visit Hongkong, Thailand and Indonesia. In this way,we can truly appreciate God's creation.

Right now, I have more interest in traveling in Europe. Norway is at the top of that list, of course. Everything that I know of Norway tells me that it is my kind of place.

The images just keep drawing me in. My cats are in favor of going to visit, because there is a lot of seafood on the menu there. I haven't the heart to tell them that, if it were just a visit, they likely wouldn't be going with Mommy and Daddy.
