"Ask not what the country......."

Who can forget the famous words of the late President John F. Kennedy - "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country." Applying the same rule here, is there anything you can do for myLot, as an individual, that it will make this into a state -of -the- art site all because of you. I know it already is but every effort counts. Do you have anything in mind?

I try to concentrate on being positive and encouraging. I also like to put relevant or informative posts up. That sounds kind of stuck up, though. I just like to put material up that might show up in a search or might help other people.

Do you also comment on every response that you receive and go back and forth so that a topic becomes a perfect discussion. Just asking

I do most of the time. . . now. When I was new I did not. I could spend absolutely days going back to them if I only would. I am pretty certain I need to even get back to my more recent ones. I also try to spread my particular type of comments throughout discussions. Not just in one spot.

One more question! Do you report violations? I don't think you do knowing your protective nature - protecting the user that is! I too am guilty here!

What I can do for mylot is what mylot wants. As an individual, I can take part in conversations, leave back words of wisdom, "be descriptive" as much as possible. I don't know what else I can give.

I do not even know the guidelines inside and out. They are subject to change without notice, although they do not change drastically. I do like the answer marquisdesade gave, though.

We stay away sometimes from what could be called a positive contribution and we do that just because we still need to know the guidelines in their totality. As they say - when in doubt leave it out. I shall pay more attention and dare to go about this site with more confidence!

Can you now say that you know the guidelines inside out? I am still groping even after being here for more than 3 years. Knowing the guidelines inside out is a sure way to contribute fully to the quality of myLot.

Oh this is good, this is being socially responsible, being a good mylot citizen. I guess i am just the type that is always trying to do what i think is according to the rules. I never am adventurous and since i love being here in mylot, what i can do for sure is still do what i do ever since i was a member and that is to abide by mylot policies. :D In addition to that i can be myself, share what i know, help others who does need it (in here through discussion responses) and just give quality in my posts.

You seem to have just joined.Welcome to myLot. Your contribution will therefore be to study the guidelines inside out so that you do not violate them. That itself is a great contribution.

I fully agree with you. MyLot is a site where one needs to thoroughly understand it and in its absence there could be several guidelines violations. Participating without violating guidelines is a big role one can play here in making this a great site.

Always open a topic worthy to be discussed than can bring general interest all together and that's it.

There is more to just posting topics. One should comment on all the responses received and make this a place where all can participate happily. We are also required to report violations and this we will be able to do only if we ourselves know all the guidelines.

By creating sensible topics and posting quality contents, that's what I can do for mylot. Mylot is already a great website as it helps people discover people, places, and things and earn at the same time. I can also help by making sure that people in here abide by the rules provided by mylot. More power to mylot and may we have many more earnings to come.

I actually don't know what to report if it hit me in the face. I don't know much about the mylot guidelines. I guess I better head on to that page and start reading. But I do agree that these guidelines will make our lives better here in mylot.

You are right. Before reporting one should know guidelines well. Nice to know you will now start reading them and that will also help you not break rules.

Do you know you can report those who violate guidelines? Do you report? It is one of the biggest contributors towards making this a splendid site. I too am guilty here as I do not do it even if I see violations here and there!

I hope so, and it does matter, so many quotes and inventions have been wrongly attributed to America or Americans, I even saw a page claiming that the World Wide Web was invented by Americans. Perhaps by countering this hubris, I am doing my part all the best, urban

But John Kennedy did utter those words. I never said that he invented those words! I understand what you are trying to say. You are concerned that wrong people should not be credited with original creations. But here it was not that way. Anyway what are you contributing here in myLot to make this a better place?

Does it really matter who said it first urbandekay? All I said was that we too, instead of complaining should do our bit. Are you?

I do what I can do here...no more, no less. I try to make interesting discussions although I do not make many. I try very hard to comment back to anyone who responds because I feel they deserve that. I report anyone that is violating the guidelines (the one's I remember), taking more notice to the one's with links to their money making sites, or anyone who is nasty to someone else. I do not know the guidelines inside and out, and still get deleted discussions...duh to me. I do not police the site shall we say, but will do my part if I see anything wrong....I hate spammers and inappropriate content. I try to help people who have problems, if I feel I have something of substance to add. That's about it....I feel I do my part, when I can.

Oh yes, just one more thing. I do like to make people laugh so if I feel I have something funny to add to a discussion, I might do that too. I love happy people.

From the little interaction I have had with you, you are open and mean what you say and say what you mean!. I could take a tip from you as to how to be perfect here. About reporting since it is done incognito I trust you that you must be doing that too but I am a bit guilty there, although I have attempted doing that here and there. It is this area I think that needs the most attention.

May be we can contribute more and more quality posts, may be we can suggest some sort of "Discussion of the Week" or "Month" award on this site. There could be other ideas too, but I think quality and unbiased posting is the best.

Suggestions such as discussion of the week or month would mean additional work for myLot Admin. Your suggestion that you contribute with quality posts is a good one, taking care not to violate guidelines.

I have promoted Mylot to my students and I even got one signed up here. I always tell them if they want to learn more vocabulary, writing skill, and knowledge, they have to join here. At least I got one. I'm going to try to get more.

I think there is one more teacher here and she has scores of student as her referrals. And when they visit a topic that topic gets more than 100 responses - indeed a tough thing for the OP to comment on! Not every one does their bit to spruce up this site. There is much that yet needs to be done. There are so many guidelines violations doing the rounds and we are expected to bring those to the notice of Admin. Have you been doing that?

More than 100 responses?! Wow!!! That is just amazing! How I wish me or my student can do such thing! Oh yes, I have told them about what they can and can't do. So I told them to respond as many discussions as possible first and feel the rhythm here before they understand enough to post a discussion.

Maybe i can help by improving my grammar . We could bring honor to this site if we have good and right literary skills. We could make Mylot more classy and popular. It will be a site that have a great writers , a caliber one. Though now it already have but the more it will have . ..Mylot can compete to other writing sites globally.

If you can do it why not although myLot is extremely considerate here as there are many who are not so fluent. This as you know is an informal discussion site where no relevance is given on how flowery one's language is but as an individual we can do our best. I do it all the time. I take care to write well. There are several other areas where users could contribute specially by participating in discussions and commenting on responses received. There are several here who post topics but never get back to comment on responses received.

I can't exactly make it state of the art but in terms of contribution, yes I can do something. I try as far as possible to put up sensible posts and respond to sensible ones rather some stupid boring posts. S o maybe I could say I'm helping to improve/maintain quality

We are also required to comment on responses received to topics that we post. Many will just post topics and not come back to comment thus defeating its very purpose. I see that you are new here. You could go through guidelines and faqs so that your participation becomes more fulfilling.

Oh boy! Are you going to have fun with me this morning! Firstly, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it..or even tamper with it!" And it ain't broke, right now! " I like it just the way it is " I cannot contribute with any technical suggestions...AND I can only contribute in the manner that I make my way thru the rest of this world. Giving the best of me, being open, honest and VERY RESPECTFUL! When my opinion is opposing, I make every attempt to voice it diplomatically (always keeping in mind there could be a languabe barrier). NO, I cannot quote guidelines/faqs....and yes I do report flaming, scamming and spamming. And these, dearheart, are pretty correlated thoughts from some-one high on Cold Meds..and it is 3:32 a.m.! HUGZ!

Usually, I am up at 4 a.m....but this morning, this rotten cold keeps me from sleeping! And I do love early mornings..especially when spring/summer make their debut...(early bird gets the worm, y'know) WOW...another lovely compliment, you are greatly cheering me! I just think when you have as many miles on you, as I do..one takes a little calmer view of things, and take just another moment to rethink one's first thoughts and present them in a manner, that you also receive respect, too! YOU are presenting some intriguing discussions...thought provoking!

This topic was triggered by another one where a user was asking for changes in myLot. I therefore thought why not we did something to liven up this site. I am up by 5 every single day but get to bed by 9. This is my routine and like it.

hi all knowing well for me its remembering not to flame anyone just because their opinion is not mine so if we all can be respectful to each other even if we disagree and show why, do it with kindness not telling the other person my view is right and yours is all wrong jerk as thats just mean. respect for each other thats a key word to help make mylot better again.
