Do you all think that for all those students who are still pursuing something or other, are compromising with their studies just to use Facebook and chatting ??

Facebook is not just all about chatting. It can also be a means of learning and a source of various information. As for our classroom purposes, my classmates are uploading certain soft copies of hand-outs, solutions manual and other related texts in our facebook group. It really depends on how people look and treat it.

I do feel that there are a lot of people that spend a lot of their time could be doing better things that virtually living on face book. I do feel that the amount of people that spend sometimes whole days on it, should be doing other things, students are on face book rather than doing school work, also it causes loads of arguments as wel, to the things that they put as a status at times.l

hello asd009 this is checkmail and think every next step in technology would be defined by its use.If use excessively without much ethic it would be useless and vice-versa. " Facebook " effects on students life depends upon how the students interact with it, for education, fun, offense, defense, etc stuff.

Overall, I have to say that I think that facebook really is a good thing. The reason that I believe that facebook is such a wonderful thing is because of the fact that having facebook has made it possible to keep in touch with family and friends that live very far away from us and whom we might have lost contact with if it wasn't for the fact that they can share pictures of their family and talk about what is going on in their life for all of their friends to see without having to write individual messages to people. However, I do think that facebook can be a bad thing when it is used in excess.

it can be an advantage or a disadvantage. it depends on how we use it. Most of the people (including me) are addicted to fb the thing about fb is you will be connected with your friends all over the world and you will be able to make new good friends too . and the problem is you gotta be active in fb to make know more about them, their updates and everything that is what counts not just simply having an fb account isnt anything. and yeah students waste a lot of study time infornt of facebook and yep just for facebook and chatting and sometimes to play games like Farmville, Cityville etc from the facebook itself. and some makes fights in facebook groups or something which can be avoided if you dont use it. I myself have a lost a couople of friends and have gained more from facebook too. as i said earlier one cannot judge whether its good or bad. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW WE USE IT ! :)

If they compromise their studies, then that means they are spending too much time on it. I don't think that being on Facebook automatically means you aren't doing what you're supposed to be doing. Facebook for me, I keep in touch with family. Sometimes I need a mindless game just to unload from the day. But there are some social networking aspects to it that can help/relate to something someone is studying. I don't use facebook for that but that doesn't mean others don't. I think if a person is in school they know what they have to do. Facebook as a whole isn't some evil monster that is sucking their brains dry of information; however, if they spend too much time on there they might not get an assignment handed in on time... lol

Facebook is both useful and useless. It may be considered as a socializing media for chatting and watching what your friends do. But it will never compare with a face to face socializing media. My opinion is that Facebook is already overcrowded with all kind of crap. When I log in to Facebook I cannot stay more than several minutes. But it can also be useful to find new friends, job opportunities and so on. Games! Not a chance as far as I'm concerned!

Some students do not know how to balance their time between studies and other things. And unfortunately, they favor chatting than reading their books. That is why parents should take heed in instilling discipline on their kids.

No. Actually, Facebook is a BETTER way to 'blow off steam' than the ways that students would be using anyway---video games, fiction, movies, TV, barhopping, partying, etc. All that stuff is stuff that students WILL do--even though it's "not good for them," perhaps ESPECIALLY BECAUSE it's 'not good for them,' and even though they COULD be studying--but Facebook lets them do it while still connected with the community (while the other things make them more-&-more alone ... except for the last one or two). Other things on the Internet might be closer to their studies--YouTube, various blog-sites, especially myLot--but you don't go to school to learn anything but 'how to learn more.' (I said "Research!" and graduated myself!)

I expect they are, you can't do two things at once and chatting rates higher than study for some. I'm compromising on making the tea at the moment and that is all due to Mylot. Fact is we all find time to do what we want to do, no matter what the pressure around us might be!

It is hard to tell, it really depends on what you are doing. You may chat because you are sharing lesson notes or as a way of discussing on the topics covered in class. Alternatively, you may also be chatting about irrelevant things that have nothing to do with school work. But is it a waste of time? That only depends on what you are discussing. If it has nothing to do with building you as a person in any way whatsoever, then maybe, you are compromising with your studies.

of course it has some advantages and advantages dear,,,, So, I think parents must be responsible enough to check their children's action especially the youngters nowadays, who spends a lot of their times in the internet cafe just to play games on FB and etc.......since FB is not just about chatting, gaming,,,,,

No, i do not think so. I think that facebook is just a fad, like everything else that came and went anyway (just some stays much longer than the others. hehe). When it comes to this... i think it does depend on someone when you have access to something - facebook as an example... discpline for one, a person can be offered everything in their plate, but it is up to them which one they will eat. which one they will have.. their decision. So similarly, when you have facebook account, though that is a distraction - one's ability to resist the temptation - to not log in to the website when they have to finish their studies, make their projects first and before they log in to facebook. You see, if there is no facebook, it will be something else... :D

For me, facebook is a good thing if you're using it in a right way. I know that facebook should not be allowed to those below 18 years of age, but I think facebook haven't got any solution in dealing with those cheating their age. I have seen a lot of minors using facebook, they just change their birth year. I think that parents should monitor their children's activities on the internet.

For students that spend too much time on Facebook doing non-essential stuff such as playing games, chatting and posting irrelevant status updates are definitely at the disadvantage. If Facebook is used in moderation, it is certainly alright. As for myself, I only use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family, to find out how others are doing, post occasional status updates to keep others informed, share photos with others and a few other minor stuff. I tend not to spend too much time on Facebook; I keep it to slightly less than an hour a day.

SOme can't control themselves and spend too much time on facebook doing things that are not necessary. Facebook is where many students waste their time. It has its uses though. However, I think most people there just play games and do other useless things. This makes many students procrastinate their school tasks.

How to manage your time in chatting and studying is a self-imposition and do not depened on your fiends and parents to remind you every now and then to manage your time. facebook somehow is good as means of communication, for me it helps me a lot since I am living far from my family and through this we were able to see and talk to each other anytime and anywhere.

It all depends upon the user. He or she can either let Facebook get in the way of their studies, or they can just use it as it was meant to be-to get in touch with family and friends. Facebook in itself isn't bad, it is the users that abuse it and use it to destroy lives, reputations, even relationships. If a student have problems prioritizing, I don't think Facebook is to blame.
