I have very weak arms!

I think that the weakest part of my body in terms of strength is my arms! I started exercising regularly in the past month and at first I couldn't even do one full push up! Even though the rest of my body is ok, I find it hard to make strong and toned arms. Today I was able to do a few push ups! I am still doing the beginners position with the knees but hopefully I will be able to do them in plank position soon enough! I guess that it's easier to maintain strong legs by walking or with basic exercise, but it's harder to keep the upper body in good shape! And I always find it more challenging to keep the right form is poses that involve arm strength comparing to any other poses in yoga or pilates. In your opinion, what's the weakest part in your body?

I feel the same about me. I think my legs are pretty strong. But Im kinda weak in the arms. Have a hard time here picking up the soda syrup boxes. And they weigh only like 10 lbs.

Oh yes, I know how you feel! Lifting weights is not good for you if you have weak arms because you transfer all of the weight to your lower back. Please be careful with that because it might lead to back problems and pain when you become older.

You just need to be patient in making your arms well toned and stronger. It may cause you some time, but it is worth the wait. It is impossible to have results right away.

Thanks jenny! I know that it needs hard work! Even with the core workouts that I am doing, my hands get stronger but I have also included some arm exercises twice per week in my program. It's been a few weeks since I started and I already feel the difference!

Try staying in a forearm plank position for at least 1 to 2 minutes every other day. You not only need arm strength to do the push ups but more importantly your stomach muscles. In this position you are also strengthening your arm muscles.Good luck and have fun.:)

Thank you! The workouts that I am doing now have many poses in plank position and I can keep that with good form for a while. My arms were weak because I could lower my body for the push up but then I wasn't able to push it back up with my arms. Now I feel stronger every day and I am also doing 10 minute exercises for the arms twice a week!

Like you its my arms. It is embarassing to look like your in shape but not be able to do something that an obviously unfit/unhealthy person can do. It is a little ironic because I find strong arms very attractive.

I know what you mean, I like toned arms as well. I couldn't even lift my own weight so I decided that it is time to start training and it was difficult at first. People who have stronger arms and can do at least a few push ups can do the workouts and gradually gain strength. But when I couldn't do one repetition, how would I become stronger?

Well it seems to me that you are at the beginner level so its too soon to expect results right away. As you have just started, your body is learning the movements and it will take time. you know instead of push ups you should do dumbbell bench press with a weight that allows you to do 15 to 20 reps because right now you are trying to lift your body weight which is too heavy for you. 15 to 20 rep is not for increasing strength but for your CNS (Central Nervous System) to learn the movement. Once you have learned the correct form then you can gradually increase your weight which will allow you to do not more than 10 to 12 reps. Same Is with the rest of the movements first you have to teach your CNS the correct form so you can do all the movements safely. If you will try to lift heavy weights straight away then your CNS will never learn the correct form and technique and as the weight will get heavier so will be the chances of injuries. As you will gradually increase the weight you will see that your strength will also be increasing.
