I've decided to live till I die!

Since going back to work in 1995, after raising my children to school age I've worked in the financial field. Even though I managed to retain my job as many others were laid off eventually my job hit the chopping block, 5 times! Now I'm the owner of my own business! No one can lay off or fire a sole proprietor! My job is secure, how much I'll make is not! My husband, son and sister want to work for me but without pay, so they won't be employees! How exciting is that! No more recorded phone calls, one-on-ones, lack of raises do to poor financial times, not to mention office politics, coworkers attitudes and trying to be number one in the department no matter who they step on and try to lie about. I love my job and only have two goals for this year and they lead only to telling me if my business will be a success or not. I hope to sell only $3000 worth of candles and heighten interest in my business! I know I will not show a profit in the first few years. That's OK. I just want to see forward movement in my business. After all, I won't be fired but my business should at least pay for itself!

Im a business owner as well.. not for long. i will hang it up in aug. Move to usa, and go back to work for someone else. That guaranteed check is better than this. Hope you do well there.

Wow! How did that happen? I'm curious! Here in the states a paycheck is not guaranteed, trust me. Unemployment is very high and employee turn over is worse. It's not because we have a bunch of stupid people here, it's because the economy has made employers very leery. Employee expectations by companies have become almost impossible to achieve. Good luck on your goals but I'm really curious about what happened to your business.

I wish you tons of good luck. I have my own little business too and it's growing..and going strong. I have a standing order for every holiday for a guy that has 8 office assistance....so every holiday I have to make him 8 of whatever I feel suits the holiday. For the last two years I have sold cards at a campground and today they came to me and asked for cards again for their season. She said that so many of the campers got used to the cards being there.....instead of having to run into town they just have to go to the office...so another nice big fat order! I make about a hundred for the campgrounds!

Wouldn't be wonderful if this turns out to be something to retire to! I can imagine a small RV and traveling to where the where the customers are! Congratulations on your success!

I think it's great too! I spent 12 months building my business. I make my own unique gel candles, hand poured, one at a time. I love it. Last year I test sold four candles on Ebay at below cost just to see if they would sell. I've done a lot of research on both making gel candles and opening and running a business. Now that I'm pretty well set with inventory I'm finding unique things to put my candles in. I hope to make only one or two unique candles at a time. I'm having a blast and I hope my company at least pays for itself by the end of this year! Thanks for wishing me luck!

This is one of the advantage being your own boss. No one could fire you except you yourself...However, if you are peforming well there is no need to fire yourself . I wish you success in your business and grow in leaps and bounds

Thanks loads for the good wishes! I make my gel candles one at a time myself. So if I can't keep up with the demand, oh gee, golly, that would mean I would have to hire a housekeeper. Ha Ha Ha Ha!
