Coconut

broken coconut - We offer coconut in temples
India
April 12, 2013 9:59am CST
Whenever we Hindus visit temples, and places of worship we offer coconut to our Gods and Goddesses; they are broken by the priest; half is kept half given back; this we bring home and distribute to all family members even neighbors; this is called ‘prasadam’. Probably coconut tree is the only tree whose all portions are useful for us. A coconut is an example of how life should be; it has a husk around it, and when it falls from a high level it doesn't break. It functions like a shock absorber or cushion. So, if our behavior is friendly, wise, and if we live a life where we are free from stress, it acts like a shock absorber. Wisdom is the best shock absorber. Our body should be like the coconut shell, very strong, and our mind should be like the kernel inside; so white and soft. Our feelings should be like the water deep inside; that is not too sweet. This is view of my Guruji. Everything in nature always has some meaning to convey. Please respond comment and share your views. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. Bhuwan Saraf. PhD. April 12, 2013. Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Yeah. You are right Sir. A coconut tree is called a tree of life. From roots to tips, it is very useful. The roots of the coconut tree is very useful in making a medicine. The stem will become a coco lumber for the construction of house and any other furniture. The husks is very useful in cleaning the house and it can also use to make flame. Of course the coconut milk can use for the making of soap. What else? lol.

Thank you for this post. For me it is a confirmation of how nothing in life is wasted. There are times when we may feel that we just can't deal with what is manifesting in our life, but if we focus into this (with me it is in meditation, we will learn from it. What it teaches me is the impermanence of our secular life, over and over again, "this too will pass" comes to mind. I get wrapped up in my health and vitality as it seems to wane as I get older. What I get from deep contemplation of this is that it is so and it is OK to be so. But words are not really adequate to describe such acceptance. My mind fears it, and the place to start is right where I am, because if I am in resistance to my experience and not where I am, then how can I transcend my fears of losing my attachment to the world? Nobody ever said it was easy or difficult, only that transcendence is possible. _Derek

hi Professor that is an interesting anology and IUlike it. So we should b e firm like the shell and not break easily when we are under pressure from different issues. Our minds should be sweet like the meat and not contaminated with ugly thoughts and soft so we can feel empathy for others and want to help in any way we cou d. Our feelings thdser stress or self absorbed either.

hi professor, coconut is a very useful tree and it grows very well in our country. different varieties are introduced nowadays. some trees grow dwarf and already bear fruit which could be taken/harvested while the person is just standing on land. the old variety, we all know, is that coconut trees grow really high before. the uses: food, materials for shelter, oil, and many others. the example and comparison is beautiful. thank you for sharing. ann

Hi, You have compared our life with coconut very nicely. Really every part of coconut tree is useful for us. It teaches us to help others. In Marathi it is known as 'Kalpavriksha'. It means this tree satisfies all our needs. Your guruji rightly said that everything in nature teaches some lesson how to live life.

The coconut tree is the national tree in my country. This is because as you mentioned, all parts of it are useful. Nothing is wasted. This is also a good business for both the rich and poor families in my country too but of course the bigger part of the share goes to the rich. Coconut tree grows well in my country and it is abundant.

A coconut means life. All parts of a coconut are very important to humans not only its fruit. Its fruit could be a a very potential cure for many sicknesses ;the coconut oil converted to virgin coconut oil.It has numerous functions, yet humans do not know. Its body is so strong, fruits strong the coconut, others are like coconut hard and tough; others are like the nut shell, empty.
