I ask everyone to read the following before commenting on this discussion. http://finance.townhall.com/columnists/ralphbenko/2013/04/24/marco-rubio-shows-the-moral-courage-to-fix-an-old-horrible-secret-immigration-deal-n1576026 I had always opposed giving amnesty to the illegal aliens, but the article brings up some good points. I know Rubio is under pressure from many conservatives outlets, but with articles like this, I think they will start understanding where he is coming from. I keep hearing about how Reagan gave citizenship to millions of illegals immigrants. But I also know that Reagan had to barter with the democrats who controlled both the House and the Senate. So just to state it about Reagan may not always be the true way that he felt, but he chosed which fights to fight, and it appear that this was one he gave to the democrats. But to label Reagan with it is being uninformed that he had a democrat controlled congress and he had to barter for what he wanted. So does Rubio's three points argument for reform hold up?

I only can say that, 99% of americans wont do the jobs illegals do for less money. I agree its wrong. But its been happening for many years. And cant be stopped.

While that is true for some jobs, there are many employers who hire illegals instead of American citizens because they can pay them less. Illegals won't fight for benefits or object to unsafe working conditions so they are preferred for many of the jobs offered by big manufacturers and construction companies. They will also work longer hours without demanding overtime pay, put up with inferior equipment that might result in injury, and work holidays without additional compensation. In short, illegal immigrants are the new slave labor. They have no recourse to bad conditions or sub-standard pay because if they call attention to themselves they might be deported. The employers have them at a disadvantage and therefore will hire them instead of legal citizens so that they can improve their profit margin. It's not fair to the immigrants and it's not fair to American citizens.

Very true, I also feel since 9-11 its not as bad as it was. I know 50 illegals who have worked in usa. Now I know 5-6 only.

Maria, how many illegals do you think come to America and start up their own business? These right wingers won't admit that the reason the illegals are coming here is because of the jobs. If employers would stop hiring illegals we wouldn't have an immigration problem. I don't care how high you build a fence, if US employers are still hiring illegals then they will find a way to get here.

I have read Rubio's reform, and I have yet to figure out what is the difference. I think that he realized that he wouldn't have a shot in 2016 if he didn't do something. Even if this doesn't work out, he can still go back to the Latino's and say he tried.

Fat, can you tell me what is the difference between our current law, and Rubio's? I don't see a difference at all. I think that Democrats are looking at that 20 million number, and realize that they have to maintain their voting for them. But, you will NEVER stop illegal immigration until you stop the employing of illegals. I don't care how big, or how protected that wall is.

Like democrats who are going after it to get 20 million more votes for 2014 to assure wins for them. Why would the democrats, who are for the unions and working man want to let 20 million more people take the jobs away from them. I can't figure this out why most democrats are for this.

People are going to spin this any way they want you to think it. A study shows that illegals pay more in taxes than they take in benefits. That would be great except for one thing. they haven't earned benefits. They are here illegally. If you also add the fact that it costs billions of dollars to house all of the illegals in prison. These are murderers, rapists, theives and child molestors. If they weren't here they wouldn't be commiting these and other crimes. Republicans have seen how Democrats have prospered by kissing immigrants butts and they have decided to join in on it. It's really too bad that our government is more worried about illegals than they are American ctizens.

What I noticed, what jumped out at me is the fact that a law was passed DESIGNED TO FAIL, and understood that it would not be enforced. THAT is the problem. And the way I understand the push against THIS LAW by the gang of eight is conservatives are afraid THAT will happen again. There is no doubt that the Obama administration does not want to enforce the law on this. And within the OLD LAW was a provision to build a fence, and only 5% of that fence was built. What's to say Rubio's law would be enforced? What should be the MAJOR part of this discussion on imigration reform is ENFORCEMENT.
