i grew up in the 90's when there are a lot of educational-entertaining shows like sineskwea, bayani, hirayamanawari, batibot, etc. they are really child friendly. and i admit they really helped me with me studies then. unlike today when the cartoons / anime are too violent for children. they often talk about wars, revenge and other forms of violence. and the clothes of the female characters are too skimpy. i think it was last week when my 2-year old nephew kicked his 8-month old sister. he was watching the anime "One Piece".

I am way older than you but I am aware of those shows you were talking about. My sons who studied in Montessori had those shows incorporated with their lessons. And I know that it is such a great help for kids. I hope that the schools would continue letting the kids watch them. As for the anime shows, I really am not fond of them. I even tell my kids to change the channel because of too much violence on some of them.

True, I just wish the good ol shows on TV but nowadays I see anime and cartoon that uses vulgar language already. But I think it is not that appealing to the generation of today now that they are exposed to these kinds of shows. They would always seek for this kind of shows over the ones we got use to see over TV.

Anime/Cartoons just like the fairy tales are not really for kids. They are for those who have the mind that can distinguish reality from fiction. I am not a child psychologist but children must not be exposed to TV programs that promote unrealistic behavior, actions etc, rather, they must be exposed outside playing with other kids, doing "kids stuff". Too much TV exposure I think is the reason why this generation is becoming more violent, and unrealistic.

when i was a kid, there are fairy tales/cartoons that are shown on tv like cincerella, snowhite, etc. in fact i enjoyed watching them because they have lessons that they can teach to the kids without becoming too violent. though i agree with you that kids should play outside with other kids.

Hi there. I have seen all those programs that you mentioned here. They surely were educational and entertaining as well. Although there might not be lots of Filipino programs that are educational, you will still be able to find lots of foreign programs that are educational in cable channels. Disney Channel and Nick Jr. are just two of my kids' favourite channels to watch. My kids are early learners and their programs helped them a lot to learn to read and spell at the very early age of 2.5 years old. I believe that parents must be more careful not to let the kids watch programs with violence. I don't like Anime.

Thinking about the old days, yeah you are right, those edutainment shows do exist and a lot of us when we are still young love those kind of shows. What happened to that kind of shows now? Why they are not making that kind of shows nowadays. It is bot just there more animes or other cartoon shows. It is because of network provider doea not make any shows like that anymore. No wonder a lot of children nowadays are more violent than before.

batibot has been revived by tv5 but it's not really good. i just wish the government would coordinate with the local tv networks to make quality and educational shows.
