Pray for yourself and others

Take a moment from your busy life and give a thought or question yourself “Why I pray to God”. Yes, this is the question I asked myself today when I prayed to God to bless me with good writing skills. I asked God for something which I do not possess right now and right after offering my prayers I began to ponder upon the fact that why did I ask to God to give me something in return? Why I did not ask him to take care of the earth or my office colleagues or my friends. After this my inner conscious said “Are you stupid? Why will you pray for someone else?”and then I found out that most of us pray to God to get something in return and mostly for our self improvement. But I am still in a doldrum and the other side of my mind says I should pray for everyone. I should pray for my parents, my friends, my colleagues and all other persons whom I know. I should pray to God and ask him to destroy all evils and poverty from the earth. No, I am not a spiritual Master who has started his journey to seek internal solace by refraining from worldly pleasures. I am a simple human being and just want to say to all the people on this earth to pray for the well being of every human being. Praying for others might not bring a sudden change in the world, but it will surely give you an internal solace.

There is value in prayer. I believe God hears every word we pray to him, and he also delights to bless us. The Bible says he knows what we need before we ask him and I believe he delights for us to ask him for things because then we are recognizing our blessings come from him and we can praise and honor him for being in our lives. I pray for a lot of the people in my life regularly, as I believe God has given me certain people in my life to watch over and pray for, and occasionally other people come to mind that I don't think of every day and I will pray for them too. I also pray for revival in my country and other countries because I know revival can touch many lives for the Lord. I think intercession is a vital spiritual gift and the Church needs more intercessors.

My Dear Friend Pradipna, First, give yourself a break, God gets it and He wants us to commune with Him, wither it's for a friend, family, the world, or just yourself. Just be prepared to listen, He will answer, maybe not the answer you were expecting, but hey, it's all a leaning process. Just the fact you are willing to take that step is a good indication you are on the right path. timmymalone

Yes, we need to be humble enough to admit that God is so much wiser than we are, and his plans can be different from ours. Jesus taught us to pray for God's Kingdom and it will soon be a reality. In Daniel's 2nd chapter we see a plan that reaches until our time. The world powers that are described there, have passed, one by one, and we live now during the last world power. Verse 44 says: "In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever" This is a wonderful future that we can look forward to - you can read more if you wish by going to jw.org - a site that can be read in 300 languages - and more will be translated.. Happy reading and studying..

Yes, we can pray for others. It makes us think of others too and try to do something good to them. There is a lot of confusion in the world about which of the millions of gods that are worshiped, is the true, Almighty God. At a very young age, I found the God that the Bible talks about, and as He has always kept his promises to us, during the thousands of years that we humans have existed, he is the God of Truth. We can see many of the prophecies written in the Bible that already have been fulfilled, and some will soon be fulfilled. I often go to my favorite site to read wise answers to my questions. Only our Creator knows the best answers. You can check it and see how you like it. It's jw.org - and you can choose what language you prefer to read. Keep praying -

@sunilmishra7756 Yes, you are right, God knows us much better than we know ourselves, and he can see the hearts of everyone - and if he finds something good, he can make it grow, if we let him do it. Let's keep praying for each other and ask God for wisdom for all of us that we can do his will. We need help to find the truth, as the world is full of false religion and false teachings, but if we pray sincerely, we can find the truth. God can see our heart...and we can also ask hime to help other honest persons to find the truth.. Thank you for your thoughts..

@1hopefulman Only God can know Himself, We are so small creatures that we are unable to know even a fraction of Him.God knows us very well and we can say that we do not know us so much as He knows us. WHAT WE CAN DO IS ONLY PRAYER. Thank you very much.
