What do you think about Anorexia

anorexia - a picture that i found over the internet that speaks by itself... how anorexia can make a person that was beautifull once to become a ugly thin thing...
November 23, 2006 4:37pm CST
Anorexia is an eating disorder where people starve themselves.Individuals suffering from anorexia have extreme weight loss. Weight loss is usually way below the person's normal body weight.People with anorexia continue to think they are overweight even after they become extremely thin, are very ill or near death.I think thats a very bad desiese.Who here thinks that being too thin is beautifull? Have u ever had a bad anorexia problem? If yes would u share your thoughs on it? Are you cured? Well ... what do you thin abt anorexia?

Man it is nasty looking. But I do understand where they come from. When I was 15 years old I weighed in at 196. I was heading down that road. So I just stopped eating and I worked out 3 times a day. By the end of the school year I weighed in at 115. My friends and family saw what was going on and I went to see a counsler. It did work for me bacause I understand the need to food in my body. But to this day... 11 years later, one kid and being married I weigh in at 125. I still think I am huge tho. I most likly will for the rest of my life. But that is something that I have to overcome. I also know now I have to remain healthy for my child! I wish that every one would see it like this.

Anorexia is a very real, naturally-happening, devistating disease. I suffered from it when I was in high school and got down to the high 80s before I was helped. I HATE when girls call it is a "lifestyle" and purposefully want to be anorexic. It is almost an insult to real anorexics who don't know how they got there and don't know how to stop. I didn't realize I was anorexic. I was not fat before hand!!! I was always a naturally skinny girl, 5'5'' and about 105-115 pounds at my natural weight. Then over the course of a summer I just wasn't hungry anymore, so I only ate one meal a day and when I did eat, it was comfort food like hotdogs or peanut butter and jelly. Finally, right before I graduated I got down to the 80s and my friends started talking to me about it. I still felt fine and didn't know I had a problem. Finally I saw a doctor but I wasn't hospitalized because I was already scheduled to go into the Marine Corps in a couple weeks. The Marines cured me because I had to eat 3 square meals a day and finish everything on my plate. At first I thought it would feel strange to eat that much but we were constantly exercising so I was super hungry at every meal. When I left bootcamp I was 124 but I settled back down to 115 and stayed there.

Thank you very much for sharing your story with us all :)

What happened back then when u did looked at the mirror... i mean ... did u felt fat even being thin? What u didnt like? What was your reaction when the doctor told u that u were anorexic? Did u think that being "thin" is achieving in someway the perfection? If so, why? I am glad Marines did help u though!

I know you people are going to think I am a terrible person for this, but i really find girls that are super skinny very attractive. I went out with a 19 year old girl that weighed 93lbs. The mental problems these girls have are weird, I can't relate and I am not even going to try.

I think it's extremely sad that a person would have such a screwed up body image to do that to themselves.Bulimia isn't any better or healthier. There's something wrong with a culture that praises youth and thinness to the point women starve, throw up or use surgery to obtain that ideal. When are we going to realize that not everyone was meant to be thin and learn to except ourselves as we are?
24 Nov 06
Thanks for your comments i totally agree with u! Cotes :who says that perfection is being thin?? Being too thin is being too sick.People should take care of themselfs. Rule number one: Learn to love yourself!

i think it is when you cross the limit.

I guess anoretic people dont really have a limit! What is crossing the limit to them if they become totally out of the limit ?

People with anorexia typically have serious self-esteem issues. If they come here and see people using words like "nasty" and "ugly" and "ewww" and "ick" it will not help them. Please try to be at least a little bit more sensitive, people.
2 Dec 06
Thanks for your reply... but also being too sensitive isnt good. Normally these people are totally in a suffering mode and need a wake up call, i believe. They need to see what people do think about it. So they realize that isnt a good thing to do or be in it. Its a bad choice for those who think being thin is being perfect. For those who think that they only going to be "cute" or either have more friends if they are "thin". Being too nice here...This is what ppl do think ... if they think being anoretic is nasty... so hey ... i cant blame them for what they think , or either telling them not to say what they really think. They are just being honest. You know what i mean? I do understand what your saying... but being nice... saying that anorexia is a bad desiese ... that everyone knows. So do you have other options(nice ones) that can help anoretic people, let us all ear abt it :)

I think it is very sad that People put themselves through that but I guess it is also a bit of the mental side that is causing it like insecure, thinking you are worthless and main thing thinking you are fat when you are not I feel sorry for these People and I really hope they get help
28 Nov 06
Me too I hope them to get the necessary help ... i did made this question to somehow change some thoughs abt the people that think anorexia is ok. It its not ok! Anorexia is a bad desiese. If theres anyone here that had anorexia experience I would like them to share with the world their bad experiences with this desiese. What kind of help they had or either how they pass their days...Maibe that will help others that are passing by trough it in the present moment. Who knows... Thank you for stopping by and also for your comment.

eat - eat
I think that it is horrible. I dont understand how people can see themselves that skinny and think it looks good or want to be any skinnier. However I do admire the willpower of anorexics!
29 Nov 06
Yes it is. *Normally people with anorexia believe there is nothing wrong with them. People with anorexia may believe they would be happier and more successful if they were thin. They want everything in their lives to be perfect. People who have this disorder are usually good students. They are involved in many school and community activities. They blame themselves if they don't get perfect grades, or if other things in life are not perfect.*IN familydoctor.org

i think its something that can be cured. its mostly in peoples minds. its a sad disorder because it can be fully preventable...and todays society doesn't help the young girls (or boys) with the way we think a prefect body should be.

How can u cure a person that thinks that being thin, is achieving perfection ?

I think the disease warps how you see yourself. I look in the mirror now and I'm almost at my heaviest weight ever but I do not look fat in the mirror. But when I weighed 92 pounds and was nearly admitted into a treatment facility, I thought I looked like I weighed 200 pounds in the mirror.

37 Week Pregnancy - Pregnancy near full term
I am sad for people who have anorexia. I've never had that myself, but I see many who do. Especially women who starve themselves during pregnancy. These women do not provide the necessary nutrients to sustain a healthy pregnancy, nor are they providing enough nutrition for their preborn baby to grow and develop to genetic capacity. The placenta suffers also. Placental insufficiency is one example. Adherant placenta is another example. Premature birth is an example. Low birth weight and very low birth weight are other examples. Toxemia and preeclampsia are also examples. Please visit my website, Auntie Natal 911 http://www.auntienatal911.com

it's not me - it's not me
if i could do it, i tell u, i would. i have a problem loosing weight and it's affecting my shopping spree! lol! i cant buy clothes coz they dont fit my size. i dont know what else to do, but i am desperate. if i can only do that or be bulimic, i will. but i cant
24 Nov 06
Hey ... ur cute! The only thing u need to do is to be wild... who says that being chubby is ugly? But if u want to loose some weigth, do it the healthy way. Being bulimic to me is harder then findind a good nutricionist, that can help u to lose those extra pounds the healthy way . Being bulimic can bring alot of desieses and not only that, it makes your body all flat and ugly.... I would prefer to be chubby healthy, cute and with some money on my pocket, then being thin flat and ugly, with no money(because, yeah! then... the money will only serve to go to doctors to repair what bulimia did).

Anorexia is a disease. It needs to be treated. The craze for thin models has fueled this. We need to change the perception of beauty.
