Would you lie to help a stranger?

I saw a very interesting documentary recently. It showed a couple walking down a busy place or restaurant and the "husband " would approach strangers and beg them to act as his coworkers in front of his "wife" as he has recently lost his job but has not told his wife yet. The couple were actors and were documenting how people tell lies. It was amazing to see how many strangers lied and how many stories they created for the "husband" to prove to his wife what a valuable coworker he was. Would you tell such tall stories for a stranger?

LOL - it is funny that I came across this discussion, because I was just talking on another discussion about how bad I am at lying. Therefore, I would not lie to help the husband, especially since I would probably do him more harm than good by trying! So, would you lie in that situation?

I do not lie well either. I would not be the one to help the man who lost his job.

@GardenGerty Also, I would be wondering how he would explain it when they couldn't pay the bills as there is not paycheck coming in.

@purplealabaster @GardenGerty I think I was not clear in my post. It was a documentary and husband and wife were actors. They were pretending to be married. the guy would go up to strangers and beg them to lie just as an experiment to see how many do. Sorry if my post is not clear.

Nope. I wouldn't even lie to help out a family member or friend. Not to be hateful or mean, but because one of the things I hate more than ANYTHING is a liar. With a thief, they will steal everything you have. With a murderer, they will kill you. You know where you stand with them, but with a liar, you will never know where you stand. I hate that!

You know, I hadn't really thought about it that way, but I really do like your philosophy on this subject.

Very well said @Little_Stormy. I agree completely. Trust is easy to shatter but very difficult to regain.

I don't know. I would probably counsel him to tell his wife the truth. Eventually he would have to tell her as there would be no income.

No, that I would not. I am totally against lies, and I surely wouldn't lower my standards for a complete stranger.

I am not sure if I would do this. I have seen a few shows like this on tv before, and found it rather funny to be honest. But if I was approached on the street I would probably just keep walking.

I don't think I would do that either.. First off I cannot act and secondly.. it is not worth telling your wife one lie after another if you want to have a great relationship. Nope, not me.
