I'm getting implants. And yes, you read that right.

At first when I decided to get implants I didn't realize how funny that sentence was when I told someone about it. But when I thought about it, I tried the prank on my apartment manager. We have talked a lot over the years about random things, so I went in and told her I was getting implants; her face was priceless! Because they are EYE implants. However, that isn't what you think of when you say implants, so I went with that to kid around before explaining in depth. She laughed too, afterwards. My dad brought up to me a couple of months ago that Groupon was having an offer of Lasik for both eyes for the price of one. If you didn't qualify you got your money back. Well, I didn't qualify. My eyes were far too bad. They were so bad that the lady testing my eyes, after doing every test twice, brought in another doctor to double check that she was doing the tests right. And she WAS doing the tests right. So they gave me other options that I could consider, and one was implants. It's a lot more involved and expensive, with far more restrictions than just Lasik. I can't bend over for a week, or pick up anything 10 pounds or more for a month (that's just the beginning of the restrictions). The first week I'm having a friend watch my dog since I can't even bend over to pour out dog food. It's happening on Wednesday. We finally finished all the tests and the eye measurements (where your eyeball was actually touched, and was very weird) a couple of weeks ago. But I didn't mention it to anyone. Say a prayer for me then, if you remember. I'd sure like to keep my retinas attached! (Only a worse case scenario, I've done tons of research, including checking prices, and the background on the doctor doing the surgery, and the likelihood of complications.) We have high hopes with my vision corrected the constant migraines I have might lessen in number. I've had migraines since I was 8, and some of them are caused by things I can't control (certain smells, getting too hot, sudden loud noises), but some may also be from my bad vision. That wasn't the case as a child, but as I got older my vision, understandably got worse. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. Pun not intended. *If you are wondering how I can afford something the insurance won't pay for when I'm on disability, and my dad certainly doesn't make much at all, it's because of my mom. My mom died May 4th of this year, and my dad and I think of this as a gift from her since the money is coming from her life insurance (no, the cost of the surgery is not the entirety of the life insurance; I wouldn't let my dad spend that much, and he actually had to talk me into doing it).

Dental Implants came to mind here as many seem to do these. Hope you are happy with the results. Sorry about your mom-she would probably be happy with this choice.

Dental implants would be good for me. I'm only 28 but have so many teeth problems. Istill have all of my teeth, but they need work! Dental implants sound easier to deal with than all these operations.

Wow, you are brave, even the Lasik sounds scary to me. I will keep you in my prayers and when you can, please let us know how you are doing...

Thank you. I can't believe how nervous I am. I'm afraid I'm going to bend over automatically, out of habit, and do some damage. If I were a cartoon the animated me would bend over and my eye would fall out. That isn't what will happen, but the last thing I want to do is mess it up. Especially, since it is coming from my mom's life insurance. I don't want my dad to think he wasted some on me. He wouldn't say it if I did, but it would bother me a lot.

Well, the EYES have it then. Great! Vision is so important. For driving, cooking, enjoying the babies, crafting and gardening. They come in handy. Mine are constantly fuzzy due to a film over them because of allergies. I have had to turn around an go home before because the haze over my eyes was so bad I couldn't see to drive. Ugh!.

That's got to be a major pain. I hope the better vision will improve my migraines. Fingers crossed.

Maybe you can someday. It is expensive, but it seems to get cheaper as time goes by.

My mom did the Lasik surgery and it worked well for her. She can see a lot better now than she used to.

Thank you. I thought about waiting. You know, kind of like what kind of surgery will be available ten years from now. But my dad and I prayed about it, so we're going ahead. So glad to see you here!

Hubby was having surgery when this post was posted, so I did not read it until today, as I have had trouble getting in to discussions. I hope to hear that you are having fewer migraines. You know your mom would be glad you are doing this.

I do hope it helps with your migraines. I've thought about doing Lasik, but haven't looked into it yet. I just don't have the money at the moment and there are so many other things I'd like to do if I did have the money. Let me know how it goes when it's done!

I felt the same way. Every time I used to think about Lasik I would immediately think of better places to spend the money.

Good luck on the implants! Gosh! that sounded funny! Seriously though, your eyes are that bad that Lasik won't work on you?

Yeah, they're that bad. Corneas are supposed to be round like basketballs, and mine are like footballs (American). But the real issue is that my corneas just aren't healthy.

I had heard of eye implants but I have never heard of people getting this kind of surgery. I have read your most recent posts and I see that it was only successful for one eye. I hope they can also fix the other.

That's a very catchy line for a discussion. The poor apartment manger.. she must have seen .. huge...
