Currently I am using a free anti-virus called Avast. I am wanting to try something else. As I was told it was part of the problem why my computer was running so slow. I was told I need to add a malware program as well. Does any one have any suggestion that don't cost to much or are free?

My Pc use 360. The best way to run your pc fast is to reinstall system! After that,if it runs still slow, you should change a new one.

I may have to add AVG to my computer. I need something. As my computer can be going at a good speed. All of a sudden slow down. What ever is causing it. Avast is not catching it.

@rusty2rusty Before you do anything else, download a free program call CCleaner. Run it. Especially run the registry scan. If you have any programs that you've uninstalled you may find that they've left orphaned files in your registry that slow down your computer response time. It will also search out viruses, malware and adware. Do a full clean-up. Then consider an anti-virus.

Avast is pretty good. I like AVG, too. Some anti-virus programs do slow down my computer. I never got along with that other one - Comodo?

@rusty2rusty I found it to be intrusive and slowed down my computer. Avast or AVG is where I would go.

Use avast antivirus it free, and very light for my computer. I don't like antivirus that scan but make your computer performance go down. Avast free and it always give update and scan my computer especially when i try open website. Beside that it also protect me from visit harmful website that contain virus. It will immediately block the connection. So far i got nothing problem with Avast. it sure the best and free anti virus.

I've been using the free version of AVG for years and so far have never had any issues with it. My husband is notoriously bad about keeping anti-virus software on his computers. I usually install it when I realize he's running without it, but occasionally I find out when he catches some nasty virus (usually one of the 'we're the FBI and you're being investigated for x crime, but we'll forget all about it if you get a prepaid card for $xxx.xx and submit the numbers to us today!' ones). When that happens and AVG doesn't work, I run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. Hubby is now running a program he got from work called Webroot. Apparently it's pretty good, but it does have fees associated with it.

I think there are number of anti-virus available in the market. I believe all work fine (except trial versions, downloaded from net). If your operating system is a genuine one, then you could try any anti virus. Now a days there are anti virus available, which work for even three years, earlier their normal validity used to be one one year.

I just use the default, Windows Defender. It's quite handy and it doesn't really bother me like the other antivirus programs do.

i use Avast as well, but I paid for mine. It hasn't been a problem for me as yet, and it blocks things that will harm my computer. Ihave used AVG and Norton, but Norton was horrible for a paid antivirus. Since I am using Avast and it works okay, I am just going to stay with it.

We use Norton Anti Virus. It is around 79 dollars a year and that one purchase can go on more than one computer in your home (if you have more than one computer).

Oof, as a Mac user I can't help much in this area. AVG is the popular one, but sometimes it pays not to follow the crowd..
