I was on Facebook a couple days ago and a fellow Mylotter came on and messaged me. She was all excited about supposedly having won $50,000 in a lottery Facebook and some IMF company had sponsored. She said when she got the money she saw my name on the list and wanted to contact me ASAP so I could text them about it. Ya, right. I started to wonder if this was really my friend. She went on to tell me I needed to text them right away. I told her I don't have a cell phone and so I couldn't do that. She went on and finally the conversation wound down to some okays, I guesses and etc. Weird. My friend never acts like this. So I went to my email and sent her an email to see if she was actually the one I spoke to. Sure enough it wasn't. So beware folks!

Those scammers will do anything to learn about you and act as someone you like just to get a sale..I'm so glad you picked up on that otherwise your info could have been hacked..

I hope these scammers don't mess with my friend too much. She is gravely ill and really doesn't need this mess. As if anyone does.

Yes, it was fake. That has been going on for awhile. I do hope you warned your friend to change their password. As it sounds like they have been hacked.

@celticeagle Make sure that profile gets reported as a hacked account. So, Facebook can put a stop to it.

I've been online for several years and so I have experience and I just felt there was something wrong from the beginning of the conversation. Being a curious person I sometimes stay on longer than I probably should just to see how far or what they will do.

I have recieved messages in my email, claiming that one of my friends had a link they wanted me to check out. I know it wasn't any of my friends, so I just deleted the eamial. One email that i get a lot is the Nigerian scam, which seems to all over the internet. It is really easy to fall for things like that, as it sounds to good to be true. When it sounds to good to be true, then it more than likely isn't. Like you said, we all need to aware.

I get those a lot. I always email the person and let them know so they can take steps. I got a scam one time and I followed it. I was trying to sell a printer and started getting emails from a woman. Then it changed to a man and he started ordering me to do this and that. I reported this. I don't see them much anymore.

@rosekiss -- It really was. I thought for a long time that it was a couple interested in my printer. Then he wanted to send me a check and have me cash it, take out the money for the printer and send him the rest. ugh...no, not going to do that. I let him think all was going as planned to get more info from him and then I reported it.

That's not good. At least you figured it out and was able to alert your friend. A lot of people seem to get their Facebook or Twitter hacked.

@Gwensmom -- I have even gotten supposed techs from my computer company calling and saying someone is using my ISP address which really scared me. Then I called my company and they don't do that. So it was a scam.

@celticeagle I know. Once Facebook had me change my password because some one was trying to login to my account from an IP address in Europe.

Those scammers will try to find a way! I've had a couple friends who had "imposters" - same avatar and name, and they tried to friend me. I unknowingly friended one - but thought it was strange because I didn't understand why I was being friended again, I assumed I was deleted from their list at some point). That night the real "her" posted that someone was posing as her, but it's NOT her, so don't friend her. I immediately deleted the fake one. Good that you picked up on that scammer!!

It is shocking to know of the devious ways how some use them tp get where they want to go. You were wise though.

Scammers are everywhere and I frankly think it depends on us how wise we are and how we take these kind of fishing emails and messages. I have seen many such messages and I never respond to such emails or messages. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

I wasn't sure if it was my friend or not so I responded to see. Had no reason not to. As soon as I felt it wasn't her I stopped the conversation and emailed my friend.

Facebook is a dangerous place, scammers steal our data to make fake proposals. It's better to be careful.
