Notifications: Are you a neat freak?

I guess it's just that the last thing on my mind in any situation is tidying up. So, it never occurred to me to clean up my notifications list. Then I noticed a few people here and there saying they deleted old notifications. Soon, even the new members were attending to the list. I started to feel like the lazy slob that I am. I worried about the lengths to which this notifications list might grow over the months. The list was already several hundred notifications long, so I decided to sample the joys of cleaning it up by deleting some. As I scrolled past Tuesdays and Fridays and weekend blitzes, I noticed that there were no notifications for August at all. Apparently, when a new month starts, so does a new notifications list. Heck, myLot deleted all of those old August notifications for me. So maybe it doesn't matter if all of my notifications for the month pile up on top of one another. What harm does it do? The newest ones are always at the top. I am afraid I am going to continue to be a lazy whatsit. I just don't see the point to frantically deleting the old notifications. Have you been keeping a tidy list? Or are you a slob like me?

I keep my notification page clean. I check the list, I reply where needed and then I delete. You can control which notifications to receive in your settings Anja.

I want them all. And unless we get points for a clean page, I don't mind a messy one. I just know that those under the New heading are ones I haven't seen. Then I open them all up in tabs. Done and dusted.

@Rollo1 I wonder if mine is a phobia of the clean page. I like to see only the new notifications.

I've decided that I like to keep the list emptied as I deal with notifications, if only so I know what I've attended to and what still needs my attention. Easier said than done... I'm up to somewhere around 60 again.

But it tells you which are new since the last time you looked, so why worry about it?

Yeah, why bother? It's not like we get penalties for having messy notifications.

I started well at the beginning and now I don't even bother, too much time consuming.

They all drop off every month, so why worry about it. Better to spend the time writing and interacting.

Every notification has a little X next to it and you can delete it. Or not. It's all up to you.

They don't bother me a bit. I don't have to look at them if I don't want to.

I am quite pedantic about tidying the notifications and always delete them as soon as they have been dealt with. Even though they will be automatically removed as soon as the month changes, they can still be inconvenient and distractive. With a list of notifications displayed on the screen I find it too easy to keep checking ones that I have already responded to, especially if a member replies to my comment again soon after the first one.

@Rollo1 That is a fair point, but it is still safer for an old fool like me to have a clean notifications page.

I suppose that can happen, but if I see a comment from a user, then go respond to it and return to the Me page, anything that happened since is under New and the one I saw a moment ago is now under Sent Today

Oh so that's why I couldn't find the Aug notifications. This means I don't need to delete that much!

I think it's great that myLot doesn't delete them daily, but gives us time to look them over.

I have '1k' notifications actually, and I never delete them, it would be too time consuming. They drop after 7 days (I don't remember to have noticed it at the end of August), and they are useful for me to jump to old discussions.

I didn't know they dropped at 7 days. That's even better. I shall never even think about deleting them ever again.

I've seen people talking about this, so I just started to do a few as I thought they'd be a mile long if I didn't. Now you tell me they are automatically removed I am a happy bunny and won't bother.

Mine were a mile long but I thought they went back two months. Someone said it's every 7 days, which is also possible. I can live with 7 days backlog.

I prefer a tidy list but I know if it gets too long, there is no point trying to respond to everything

I try to get to everything, but it's very busy here. I hope I get to the most important things.

@Rollo1 Yeah, it can be hard to get caught up, if you get too far behind
