How do you detect Scammers and Copycats here?

I have been wondering if there are scammers and copycats here. In the weeks that I've been in myLot, I have yet to experience seeing one. Maybe I don't know how to identify them. Or maybe the admin is just efficient in getting rid of these guys. I don't even know if plagiarists are lurking in myLot corners.

I actually reported one today where he only had three discussions and two of them were plagiarized.

I have spotted a plagiarist and reported to the Administrator. I can easily spot them because they usually leave comments in broken English and their articles are in perfect English.

Adding to what @owlwings said. Some of the posts will leave the referenced page (taken from X website). I hope I don't have any encounters with scammers.

When I come across them I'll report them. Wouldn't want myLotters to be affected by these cheats.

@Beatburn Yes report away because their ill gotten funds take away from the people who actually try here.

@callarse1 We have to stand up against injustice especially in a community like this.

Plagiarists were back here the day after myLot started to pay again. I have reported several plagiarized posts quite every week. They are deleted quickly by myLot. If a member posts several plagiarized discussions, he is generally banned.

Such is the reality of life, some will do anything for an easy buck. Then myLot admin is really efficient. Good for us members who follow the guidelines here.

You are not alone in wanting to know how spammers, scammers and thieves may be identified/reported on this site! I know many people don't want to learn how to identify and report these sponges that "pick up" the cash that could be going into our own pockets! Yes, I am one of those people who help police any site I join because any money we can save for site, actually puts more money into our own pockets! I ask a question on a Bubble once that said, "Do you help police the sites where you are a member?" I had to delete that bubble! So many people ask if the owners were offering to pay them to find cheats and when my answer was no, people went STUPID! Why should we help them? If they want MY help, they'll pay me! The "best" one of these I heard (before I deleted the bubble) was, "Nobody's been stealing from me!" Every penny removed from ANY site by a scammer/spammer/plagiarist IS coming out of everyone's pockets! Sorry, RANT done!

Back when myLot was paying a few years ago, that seemed to be the overall attitude of people as well. In fact, people that admitted to reporting things were labeled the "myLot police" and some other not nice names. They took a lot of heat for helping to keep the site clean. As time went on, myLot became overrun with spammers, scammer and just nonsense, and eventually it stopped paying its members. Since the site has started paying again, I have noticed a whole different attitude about reporting and helping to keep the site clean and nice. Maybe some of them have come to realize what the rest of us have been saying all along, but unfortunately it took the site essentially disappearing for a couple of years to get them to this realization.

@DaddyEvil I am glad to hear that people are realizing this, although I agree that it is sad that it took such a harsh reality check to wake them up!

@purplealabaster It is so sad it took that much just to wake people up! I got a nice surprise when I got home today! Apparently, one of the people who told me she'd only help if the site paid her is also a myLotter. She left me a message apologizing for her attitude and the different way she had looked at sites before myLot disappeared. So, you are right, at least some of them have learned the difference between suck-ups and helping keep your sites clean and healthy! I hope she sees this, because I am so proud of her! LOL! I just teared up over this!

The first day I joined this site I spotted a plagiarist. I read a discussion and replied to it, then a few hours later I saw the EXACT same discussion by a different user, of course this user only had 1 post and it was that. I reported him to a admin then I later noticed the post was gone. They seem swift at taken down reported posts.

I think our vigilance also helps. If we all work together in getting rid of them then we help each other. But will we ever see a plagiarist free writing site? Is it even possible?

I don't encounter any as well perhaps there are still not many active members yet. I remember there are several sites to help checking out.

I never get the joy of reporting as most of them are already reported.

What other joys do you find in place of reporting?

I've reported two scammers. They are easier to spot than copycats. Scammers will usually be plugging a business, often with a website and contact detail, inviting their readers to go there and make easy money (which will amount to loss of money for anyone who goes). Copycats are harder to spot if you don't know their work is copied. They can leave clues though. Their features will be different in style from one another unless they take from the same sources every time. If they borrow from some sites they often leave citations in (with phrases like, see Smith, page 15). They can be caught out by search engines that can match them to the earlier original versions. We have to be vigilant as the scammers / copycats are out there but not in as great a number as on other sites.

I reported a scammer yesterday who had three or more posts of the same kind promoting a website. I forgot the username though it would have been good to check if it has been removed. Will take note of it next time. I agree. myLot seems to be a better and safer place for writers/contributors.

I haven't encountered any myself, either. I think @Owlwings gave very useful information about identifying plagiarists. It's good to know that the admin is very quick and efficient in dealing with them.

Thank you @goaskalice and the other admin here. I wouldn't want those who try to make a decent earning suffer.
