I remember as a child, looking at pictures of ugly old trolls in fairy tale books. During the 1960's, toy troll dolls were introduced into the market place. They were ugly, naked little creatures, that had long wild colored hair. Everyone I knew fell in love with them young and old, thought they were cute! Just had to have one...they were even sold on key chains and in miniatures, because they were promoted as having magical powers and were looked upon as lucky charms. To receive your luck, you were never to comb the trolls mane, only to pet or rub it with your hands. Many people came to collect these dolls as they were released, they were sold in a variety of hair colors, then stones were added to their belly buttons and then of course they began dressing them up in little troll outfits. When I was looking for a picture of one of these little guys, I saw a few pictures of today's demon trolls...they are so baaaad...even the ugly fairy tale trolls could not compare to todays monsters...just sayin'.

I remember the troll dolls, too. I think that I actually became aware of them from the '80's - '90's revival, when many people had them decorating their computer monitors. I had to look them up, of course, after you reminded me! I didn't know that they were created in 1959 by a Danish fisherman and wood carver called Thomas Dam when he couldn't afford a Christmas present for his little daughter. It seems that he was on the ball and must have found some funding because he very soon set up a factory to make them in plastic. I wonder if he's still alive and whether he made good money from the venture (there were many imitations).

Wow. what memories, I remember those trolls from the 60's. They also came on necklaces, the tips of pencils, they were so popular, they were sold everywhere.

I remember that I had an adorable "biker troll" dressed in black leather. I am not really into dolls, but this one was a gift, and it really was adorable. I had it on a shelf and even took it to work and put it on my desk when I got a bit older. Then the kids got ahold of it, and I have no idea what happened to it after that!

I had a couple of trolls and loved them. I even bought some clothes for them and made some clothes for them. My two daughters have them now.

LOL! Oh, how funny! I do remember the trolls from the '60's, @sherryeb ! I had a pencil in (I think) first grade that had a troll on it. You had to pop him off the pencil if you wanted to use the eraser! I do hope you are having a good time on myLot!

I certainly do not remember trolls from the '60s, since I wasn't alive back then.
