The Mid-Autumn Festival

China
September 26, 2015 5:33am CST
Tomorrow will be the Mid-autumn Festival (15th day of the 8th lunar month)-our traditional and statutory holiday when people in work can take a day off .However this year the Mid-autumn Festival coincides with the weekend ,so people will get one day more holiday during National Day (Oct,1). The Mid-autumn Festival 's grand finale is that whole family sit around a table to enjoy a beautiful full moon and eat moon cake. The moon is round ,the moon cake is round and whole family form a ring ,what a scene !This is just our hope for perfect future ! .

Interesting, you are having a holiday about the same time as I am. There will be a blood moon Sunday night which is the day before Sukkot, (and as you know the days start at sundown, so it is more or less the same day) a high holiday I observe. There is a special service Monday and since this is 8 days long, we are having a special feast next Saturday.

Oh,it happens that your Sukkot is about the same time .What is interesting is that our Mid-autumn Festival was once called harvest festival .Do you still put up a tent and live and eat in it during Sukkot?

@changjiangzhibin89 We haven't yet, but I hope to get the tent up soon. I was hoping to go camping with some other people, but the place they usually camp was not available this year.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! The moon is big and beautiful tonight. We had the pleasure of trying moon cakes at my cousin's house when we had dinner at their house a while back. He is married to a Chinese-Vietnamese woman and she had moon cakes for all to try for dessert! Yes, let's hope for the very best in the future! Hope you enjoy all the festivities!

@changjiangzhibin89 Actually we missed the Blood Moon (I don't know why I assumed it would be later at night) - and the moon was covered by Halloweenish clouds by the time we thought of it. However a bit later on I went outside after everyone had gone to bed and the clouds cleared - the moon was quite full and large! Hope you had a wonderful reunion with family!!

@much2say Thank you ! It was a good job you didn't go to bed then ,or else you would slip an opportunity to enjoy such a wonderful scene .

I have heard of moon cake but never had any. What is it like? Is this the only time you have it?
