I believe that, with very few exceptions, we are all affected by some unreasonable fears. The most common are the fear of height (acrophobia) and of the closed spaces (claustrophobia). There are other more uncommon phobias, among them: - Ablutophobia - fear of washing and bathing. - Chromatophobia - aversion or fear to colors. - Somniphobia - it is the fear to fall asleep. - Haphephobia - the fear of being touched and even to touch. - Neophobia - usually found among elder people, fear of new things. - Coulrophobia - an unreasonable fear of clowns and their costumes. Are you affected by an uncommon phobia? I suffer of claustrophobia and a bit also of coulrophobia. I prefer to stay away from Circus.

@allknowing My Mother told me that when I was born and the nurses gave me my first bath, they did not keep my head well out of the water and she saw that I was scared trying to breath... I believe that this was the start of my fear.

I cannot think of anything that I fear strongly enough to qualify as a phobia. The idea of becoming sane and normal would really scare me, but as that is so unlikely I do not worry about it. I have always liked the really odd phobias such as triskaidekaphobia for the number 13 and phobophobia as the fear of fear.

I do not fear the number 13, this is not a southern Italian phobia for sure, because in the south of Italy it is considered a lucky number.

How is it that I missed your comment, I did not receive notification for this. I thought it was a lucky number in France. I have nothing against the 13, but I know that the 7 is an unlucky number for me.(Yes! I am a bit superstitious).

@vandana7 You probably don't remember it, but I started my own paraskevidekatriaphobia category in the old myLot to speak about Friday the 13th. It is a serious topic. @LadyDuck Some people are buying lottery tickets or scratching tickets on Friday the 13th, and think that it is a good day for money games, but I don't play for money...

I don't have any unusual phobias. Mine is a fear of heights which is pretty common. I do have a fear of snakes and spider but not to the point where it affects my life.

I fer earthquakes very much, but it is a wholly reasonable dear as I live in the country that has the biggest quakes in the world. Still, I think that tsunamis are worse, but I donĀ“t live near the sea. Besides that, I hate roaches.

I am very claustrophobic to the point that just thinking of being trapped in a small space makes me feel faint. I can't watch any movie or TV drama where someone is buried alive. I also am terrified of the medical tests called MRI's where they slide you down this long tube. I am also somewhat afraid of heights, especially if I'm not on a solid surface. I'm afraid of large spiders and bats, too.
