Business Trip

My brother left yesterday to go out of town for business. He will be gone until Saturday. I wish I could have gone with him but his boss didn't want family to go on this trip because of the long hours they will be working. I hope my brother is able to enjoy some of the time he will have alone. On his way back Saturday, he is stopping to visit a couple of hours with our aunt who we haven't seen in a long time. She is one of our favorite aunts and he will have such a good time. I will miss him while he is away and Bella is already missing him. I don't know how dogs know but she always knows around the time he is supposed to come home and waits by the door. She was doing that last night.

My brother and I are really close even though I am 13 years older than he is. I helped raise him so that could have something to do with it.

@gudheart We both think so much of each other. We have 2 other sisters but we don't always get along with them. As a matter of fact, we had a falling out and haven't spoke to either of them in almost 4 years now.

The guinea pigs start chattering at me every night around 10 pm because they know I give them treats before I go to bed. I have no idea how animals know what time it is, it's a little eerie.

Animals are smarter than they are given creit for. I remember a long time ago when I had a guinea pig and if I opened the refrigerator door mine would start chattering.

@Rollo1 It really is a little eerie. It must be some kind of internal clock or something.

I did go with him the last time he traveled for work but it was only Bella and me. I think Daisy is too young to travel for 6-7 hours in a car.

It's a shame that you will miss out on seeing your aunt, and I hope your brother doesn't work too hard. At least you have the dogs to stop you getting too lonely.

@simone10 As you say, visiting your aunt can wait until Daisy is older.

@jaboUK Yeah, Daisy has never traveled that far before and I hate to think of her in her crate for 4 hours during the day.

That is true, I am never lonely with my dogs around. I wish I could have visited with my aunt. She isn't much older than I am and I have always gotten along with her. We found out that she lives about 4 hours away so we can both go and visit when Daisy is a little older.

bless yer heart, i'm sure that time 'part'll do ya both some good. critters jest know these sorta thingies - like they've 'n internal clock'f sorts. they know when their humans 're gonna tend 'em, show 'em a bit 'f love 'n do a bit'f pamperin'. 'tis that 'pack' mentality 'f the excitement 'f return. glad he's gonna get that visit in - no doubt'll be a joy fer both. 'least'ja got those sweet pups to keep ya occupied 'til he returns.

It could be an internal clock thing. It just always amazes me. Bella always knows my brother's car too. Not so much by site as by sound. She can't hear the car now as the parking lot is farther away but when we lived in another apartment, the parking lot was right outside the door and she would always get excited when she heard his car. Other cars she never seemed to notice. It must have to with their superior hearing.

@simone10 yepperz, pups know the sounds 'f the autos their family drives. i get tickled with momma'n the aunts pups - she says they're doin' back flips 'n jumpin' 5' high when i get 'bout a block from her place in town.

Animals have an internal clock. The cat knows when we should be up, when we should go to bed, and she lets us know. I do hope your brother has a good trip.

That do seem to know things like when to get up or go to bed and when it's time to eat. My brother's trip was okay but he was glad to get home.

I hope the meetings are not to long and difficult and he can enjoy some time with the aunt. Poor Bella of course she knows his routine and will still be waiting for him when he returns home.

He was able to have some time to himself and had a really great visit with our aunt. Bella was really sad while he was gone, acting a little depressed. Once he got back home, you could just see how happy she was.

Pets always have a knack of knowing things and I suppose that's because they are devoted to us completely. After all, we are their only closest kin who is supposed to look after them throughout their limited short time with us. I hope that your brother will have a good and safe trip here.

Yes, pets do seem to know certain things and it could have something to do with how in tune they are with us.

Wow! Long hours. Your brother probably wouldn't have time to hang out with you and that wouldn't be fun. Perhaps you'll be able to travel with him on the next business trip.

Hang in there, Simone. My brother's away on business for work this week and next. He'll be home today and goes back out next Sunday. But it doesn't hurt to email, call or text him, even if it's at night-time. As for pets, my SIL watches over his two dogs and one cat, so they won't be lonely. If it's separation anxiety, have your brother take record a message for him or talk to him on the phone. Try to stay busy at home, while he's away.

Yes indeed some time family would like to join husband/or wife Business trip. Big corporations in USA have employees traveling all over but they just cannot afford other member of the family to join, or business trip is just business and not pleasure.

Most of the time his business doesn't care if I come along but this time they were going to be working long hours so it wasn't really a good time for me to go. Plus we still have a small puppy and she wouldn't do good traveling right now.
