It is a day started in 2001 to raise awareness of the community or feral cats in the nation. It is also set up to help improve and protect these type of cats. I guess there are over 700 event nation wide that help in adoptions, educating, and spaying , neutering and vaccination clinics. We are lucky to have a lot of programs in our community for people who can't afford to go to a vet to get their animals shots and for spaying and neutering too. They even have one that helps with food for pets in the community. Do you have good programs like this in your community?

Yes we have, the authorities take care to neuter the feral cats and to find a home for them.

@celticeagle You almost see no feral cats in the street, they have all found a place where to live.

@Marcyaz ...that is meant to deliberately irritate, tease, and provoke muslims out here...a beechey way of telling them you are powerless in this country.

I would expect it to be extremely difficult to adopt many feral cats as pets due to their wild nature.

I don't know here in this new town I am in but they have people that will foster found animals and since we only have one veterinary clinic in the area they are checked out there. I don't know if they do it for free or not but I kind of think so.

I think we all should do our part. The animals can't do it for themselves. Ya know?

I don't know if there are programs like that where we live. We are kind of out in the country.

@celticeagle As far as I know there aren't any programs for people who can afford vets but I don't know for sure. I think most people out in the country don't get their animals vaccinated like they should but that is just my guess.

we have a feral cat society to rehome dumped cats. when I first moved i nto this room there were 2 dozen cats all ages, sizes and breeds I felt so bad for them and found this society in the yellowypages and they did take them and find homes fo them too they do not kill them. I saw this lady take a ktten out of ther car , put it on the ground, close her door and drive off this is in the alley behind my room.I called the society again and they came and took the kitty so i know they wll find her a home.

I sometimes wonder if there is a maximum number of good causes for which days can be set - presumably it would have to be 365! When good cause number 366 comes along it will have to wait until February 29th and only be marked once every four years!

I think it is a matter of choosing those we want to focus on and the others to those that are focusing on them. We all have our interests and there are a lot of us!

It wasn't until me and a few other people started the animal rescue in our town (which is the county seat for crying out loud), that animals were even being taken care of. The stray dog and cat population in this town of 3,000 was ridiculous @celticeagle . All the 3 vets did was just kill them.

It's like doctors, some vets shouldn't be in the profession.
