some topics of discussion here are short while others are longer. which ones do you prefer to read? personally there are moments when I don't feel like reading so I prefer short ones but there are also people who have a certain style of writing that makes me want to read the topic until the end even if it's rather long

The term topic is misleading here. A topic is 'love' for example. It's the same as 'subject' or 'theme'. What you mean is post or discussion. I find that most one-paragraph posts are next to worthless. A post of, say, 1000 words is too long for this site, of course. The answer lies in the middle. I read a post and like it if the topic interests me and it's well written.

@MALUSE you said that topic=theme. i meant a theme of discussion but anyway i don't think this word should be a matter of dispute

@swissheart Well, I see things differently. If someone uses the English language in a way that the readers can't understand the meaning at once, they may move on without liking or commenting on it. -- It's a fact that a theme or topic are neither short or long. It's the post /discussion which is short or long. But I won't go on explaining things. We're not at school here.

Depends on the topic for me!! If I think there is something that I can contribute to the topic, I will respond, irrespective of the fact whether it is long or short!!

@Rationalwriter I guess in order to catch the eye a good title is important

@swissheart There is no particular choice per say. The heading of the topic must catch my eye!! If that is not the case in the recent topics, I go through them one by one, and if there is anything which I can discuss upon, I do that!!

I prefer short, crisp and direct answers. It wastes time just beating around the bush.

I agree with that. there are rare cases in which I read a long text. there are cases in which i move to the next topic

I think as long as its interesting and sparks discussions - ie not "what is your favorite color?" Its good in my book. I dont always enjoy reading novels but a few paragraphs seems good in most cases.

yes indeed. you have to express something trough what you're posting in order to get people interested

I like something that makes me think how I would react in that situation type of posts.

@swissheart ..I think I read better than listening. lol. So there it improves my skills of "hearing" what others have to say. :) As to advices, I am not sure I am the best, but I am willing to change my opinions.

@vandana7 as long as you put yourself in the position of the other person this shows you give good advice

so I guess you're also a good listener and give good advices right?

One liners are annoying, and I generally report them because they offer "little or no value", as stated in the guidelines. Overly long discussions can also be annoying to read, especially if the writer is padding it out with lots of flowery words. To me, one paragraph minimum, three paragraphs is ideal. 5 or more paragraphs and then things start to get a bit annoying. I think myLot should impose a 2000 word minimum for starting a discussion, and 1000 word minimum for responses and comments.

woow but wouldn't it be a little bit too much?

@swissheart Not really, 2000 words on a discussion or topic is nothing!

I don't mind if a discussion is short or long as long as it is interesting to me.
