How late is too late. . . small town business

I called an electrician earlier this week. He was to plan to be here at 9 this morning to look the job over. I called the number in the phone book at 10:15, his wife did not know anything, so she gave me his cell. It turns out he had taken my information on Monday when I called and left it laying somewhere because he got an emergency call out for someone with no power at all. He freely admitted this to me. I was okay with it. I am going to have to post a lot in the next few months as this is going to cost us $700 or so. I just have to budget. Really. Life is pretty laid back here. I am glad of that. I also understood what he explained to me about the job, and that is good.

At least he was honest as to why he was late. Getting work done is expensive but worth it once it's done

In the long run besides knowing that the source coming into the house is safe, I will be one customer, with one customer charge.

I hope that he's able to stay on budget both monetarily as well as time wise for you.

This was just a rough estimate, and he has selected a day when he has the most help to get this part done quickly. He will also contact the appropriate people for the inspection.

wow thats a big chunk of money but I gather from what you say its all explained satisfactorily. I love small towns they are laid back and people care m ore. Here i n Orange co unty the towns well cities really all run into each other. I am lu cky that on this street Dawson people are very friendly but thats because most are Vietnamese odd but here in Garden Grove Calif we also live in the litte 24 block Little saigon all the malls are basically full of Vietnamese shops along side american shops too not that they are not Americans too but the shops handle mostly asiastic produce or products made in Asian countries the one mart close to us has fantasic prices on fresh fruit and veggies

I was thinking that you must be able to get some fresh fruit and veggies and there might even be tasty seasonings.

And they have to keep their licenses current. He would get done sooner but he has to go for a license renewal.

Wow, that's a hefty bill. I just had the plumber do some work too and it's not cheap

That's awfully a lot of money there. I suppose it must be a major malfunction back in your home. Still I am glad that the breakdown has not affected any of your expensive electric appliances like the washing machine, water heater, PC and so on. Otherwise, I think it will be way more than U$700 here.

It is not a breakdown as such but it is preventative work and upgrades.

@GardenGerty I suppose this is what you have to do to be safe then by all means for I'm sure your life and those living in the house is worth more than that amount being spent.

@GardenGerty or they put their money into things? Or are paying off getting their lisence? Mechanics feel the same way, and I know we all pay them tons

Wow that is a lot but I guess old wiring in home needs to be replaced and brought up to standards. When we built our home here I did all the electrical wiring and bought the top quality wire to lay in our home. Here we use 2 different gauge of wire one for lights and one for wall outlets. Wish you a lot of luck on this one and hope it works out for here. BTW if you lived here and they said 9 in the morning appointment you might be lucky if they come by around 3 in the afternoon with no phone call or reason why they are late,

I know that there is such a thing as Island Time. I was not too concerned for the first hour. We may do some of the interior wiring ourself, but this external had to be up to code and things have changed. I think I will post about it in another discussion.

We got this home very inexpensively, knowing that there is going to be work to be done. I would like to have all the contract work done before the first of the year.

Tradesmen here rarely seem to be able to stick to their appointment times. Everyone basically expects to be inconvenienced to some degree. At least your electrician had a legitimate excuse.
