Don't judge me by my shopping cart

Yesterday evening the delivery van brought my online grocery shopping order. It contained about £90 worth of cat food, 6 boxes of vegetarian stock cubes and 6 packs of dry Udon noodles. I'm sure the delivery man now thinks we live off cat food noodle soup.

@boiboing that's when the cats had better go into hiding!

@valmnz If it came down to them eating me or me eating them, I'd put my money on the cats surviving.

If there's war, famine, pestilence or plague the cats will be fine but my noodles might run out.

Cat food deals come round every few weeks and when they do we snap up a couple of months worth.

That's a lot of cat food, or very expensive cat food but I guess even your big boy will be home for the winter so it won't last long.

@Dragonairy1 We would only give him extras if we hadn't seen him for a few days. He seems to get by very well on what his buddies around the village give him.

He can certainly put it away. I have seen him snarf four sachets in one sitting.

Wow amazing shopping for food online and having it delivered. I have a small market right next door to me and a smaller one just a block away. I have my organic garden in the middle of the two. So basically I get what I want from the garden then just stop by he store to pick up maybe noodle or butter or something small. I couldn't imagine anyone delivering food to me here. But sounds like a wonderful idea. I wonder if some people who can't shop would use such a service here on the islands. It is worth checking into on this one. What an amazing idea this is and I know it is nothing new where you live.

I believe the UK online grocery service is the best in the world - and the cheapest. Stupidly the retailers got so competitive that they had to make it practically free. And of course it costs them a lot more to do it than to have you drive to the supermarket, walk around picking things up and then driving home again. People also tend to do less impulse buying so the retailers can't use their usual tricks to get you spend more than you want.

@poehere Apparently Amazon want to start delivering orders by 'drone'. But that's a step too far for me. They might drop it on the cat.

@boiboing This sounds like great idea to me. There are some people here who don't get out a lot or don't have a car so they can't go shopping.

Quite tasty I am sure. I think your cats must enjoy the broth and noodles with their meals.

Thankfully my cats eat what they are given. I have friends who would never dare bulk buy because they know their cats would decide they don't like the food and refuse to eat it.

Sometimes I buy a lot of heavy items that I can't bring home from the store myself. So my order may contain cases of water bottles, soda bottles, canned goods. They might think I am stocking up for the apocalypse.

It seems a lot of cat food, but now that I feed the neighbor cat, I realize that they eat a lot!

I bet they call you the cat lady... lol's .... Like you .. I wonder what they think... ?? but that must have been a big saving and the bonus of not having to pick it all up and lug it around in a trolley...

See Sue, you really do understand me! Normally the 40 packs are £13. I only buy when they hit £9 and so when that happens, I stock up for a couple of months. And yes, it's nice to not have to carry it all.

@boiboing - Do I need to use all six packs of Udon noodles? I'm worried that it might turn out too noodly and detract from the taste of the cat food. It does sound like a great Iron Chef recipe though.

@troyburns Well of course it depends how many sachets of cat food you use. But I prefer a thinner broth and not too many noodles. Enjoy.

I think mostly they're just relieved if customers are at home and don't live on a high floor with no lift.

What a delightfully funny thought and post to read this morning! The title was so intriguing! I have to laugh the other day I thought what the clerks at check out must think and know about the shoppers, who's single, who has a family, pet, nice post.

@boiboing I guess the guy scanning must be a robot, or they seem to act like it. Many don't interact with the customers but do with the staff about personal plans!

Once when shopping at Walmart I got one of the big 25 pound bags of sugar. I only get to Walmart once a month or sometimes less so I buy a large bag of sugar and flour. Not to mention I was making jam at the time as well. The cashier commented on the sugar and how filled my cart was. I responded back that I was making jam and asked her if she was the Walmart interrogation police.... I think that got away with her a bit.

Maybe not . But he will be so envious of your cat for pampering him because most of your shopping items are for the cat .

We only order the heavy stuff for home delivery and we only order when it's on special offer. The stock and noodles were just something we'd run out of.

Okay, then, Boing, I will tell my brother-in-law that you really don't eat the cat's food, then. He was a little worried about you when he dropped off your order! Thanks for letting me know! He will appreciate that information, too!

I always book the weird slots that only cost £1 or are free. So the man in the van rolls up at 9.30 in the evening to deliver cat food and noodles. Probably by that time of day he's past caring.
