I have a little question...

Vietnam

I tends to ramble so let's cut it short. I wonder is it okay for me to post my translation to a book here on myLot. It's a lovely story from a puppy's point of views. I have been living in a country where copyright is not taken seriously but I do want to do it right. Ps: I tried to contact the admins instead of posting a discussion but I couldn't figure out how... I think it will be more convenient if I can contact them directly.

A translated work is still the copyright of the original author. You should not post copyrighted work, even in translation, unless you have the permission of the original author. To contact Admin for his official answer, send a Message to @GoAskAlice.

Thank you. I will try to contact the author. His books have been shared on the Internet for decades. I'm quite sure that he couldn't care less since his books still are bestsellers here. And I know some authors really appreciate it when fans translate their works.

@Allamanda his books may have been shared but that does not mean it was with his permission. I've been on writing sites for years and the rule is if you do not have written permission from an author you do not publish their work...essentially it is stealing.

If something is copyrighted don't post it. Unless you've permission to by the author.

Thank you. It's a great idea. I'll try to contact him. It's not an easy task but I'll try.

@Allamanda This is an interesting discussion, but posting a translation of a story might not interest as many people. You can post a review of the story, though.

@GardenGerty Thank you for your suggestion. I will do a review. Actually, I want to translate it because I enjoy the story and the translating job itself. Making money is not my first priority. This site has a true community who read and that's what I appreciate the most.

May I also respectfully suggest that even if the admins said it was allowed, it probably wouldn't make a post that I would read. Here they are called 'discussions' and a chunk of translated book might not be a very stimulating discussion. I'd rather read about you and your life in Vietnam than about the thoughts of a fictional and translated dog.

i will do that for sure :). And about this, it's just a small challenge I set for myself. I love translating and that book. My intention is to share. I'm willing to receive no money for this. I choose to post it here because this site have avid readers and that's all about it. I will do a review like other people suggested. I'm sure everyone will love it.
