Good news at the gas pump and other places!

United States
December 14, 2015 12:22pm CST
According to what I heard on the news this morning, gas prices will most likely stay at their current prices for at least the next few weeks. Sometimes (many times) they raise the gas prices during holidays. But better than that is they also said gas prices will probably not go above $2 a gallon for several years. The sales of pick-up trucks and big SUV's has increased and people will continue to buy 'gas guzzlers' as long as the price of fuel is low. If you heat your home with oil, you should see savings this winter over last winter. All positive things for a change!

I remember when I used oil to heat my home. I wish there was some way to store the gas for those summer months when the gas prices go so high.

@AbbyGreenhill ..Mine is electric too. I like it best. When I lived in a trailer we had a tank. Didn't care for it. Glad they aren't used much anymore.

Where we live most homes are totally electric...you won't find many that use oil. We have a 500 gal. propane tank (for the fireplace, cooktop and grill) if we need propane we buy it at the end of summer while prices are low.

I think we need a respite for a while on prices. There has simply been too much blatant profiteering over the past few years.

I'm happy to see $1.67 a gallon and I'm sure there are places around here that are lower. How are your prices in Canada?

@AbbyGreenhill I wish we could get that low. We purchased gas at 92.9 cents per litre and remember there are 3.5 litres to your gallon. So we still get ripped off.

@pgiblett I guess you have to cross over to the US and buy cheap gas.

The gas prices in the UK have dropped to below £1 per litre (just!) for the first time since 2003. That's $5.73 per US gallon.

I remember someone saying a few months ago gas there was over $10 a gallon, so that's almost half, it must be very welcomed.

we have an economic car, and 1 truck, which sadly one of us has to drive, since we both need cars, but also only wanted 1 truck for hauling and moving things around the home and stuff.

Our suv gets excellent gas mileage so no complaints. He had an elCamino I made him sell now that car was a gas hog.

@Jessicalynnt It sure could be, especially if it was a rv - they get like 8 or so.

@AbbyGreenhill I dont like the 17 mpg on the truck, but it could be much worse.

That's great news for those of us who don't work in the oil industry. BTW, when gas prices were high, the President was widely blamed by his political opponents. Anybody want to bet he'll get credit from them now that prices are down?

I'm not sure who to 'thank' for the good prices, but let's enjoy them.

I sure hope this news is true and the price of gas does stay down. I also hope like heck people don't go all crazy buying gas guzzlers because of it. I also hope that all those 'other' prices that got jacked up when the prices of gasoline was high will come back down now that shipping those same items will cost less. What you want to bet the only decrease we will see is at the pump?

I can live with the only thing going down is gas prices, it's better than nothing. I think the only place that does lower prices are gas stations and Wallyworld!

@AbbyGreenhill True and so could we all. But the prices at the grocery stores soared as a result of rising gas prices. Ethically they should start coming back down. I would love to be able to buy eggs without breaking my little food budget.

An increase of high engine capacity vehicles is not really a positive thing. This simply escalates the exhaust being pumped into the atmosphere.

We heat our home with electric so gas prices won't help there.
