Me, the Tree, and Swiss Colony

Having declared the old tree to be mostly dead, we disassembled it and stuffed it into the broken box. It doesn't fit, because trees never go back into the neat, tiny boxes they come in. And we swept up another pile of shed fake pine needles. I have had real trees that didn't shed as much as that artificial tree. There's no money for new trees, but I did note that Walmart had reduced the price of it's $20 tree to $14.88. I quickly bought it before they sold out, ordering it online for pickup at the store. The Girl wondered how anything calling itself a tree could fit in that very small and narrow box. And this morning, with only half a cup of coffee in me and the sun not yet risen, I decided to find out. So I set up the tree. It's actually a very nice-looking tree. It's a bit narrower than the other, but that's a good thing. It will fit in the space better than the other. It's also pretty full and actually looks more like a real tree than the other one did. For less than $15, I should buy several of these trees and put them in a closet. I would have trees for life, even if they only last one or two seasons. I did have to buy lights, but that means I was able to keep the lights to three basic seasonal colors - red, green, white. No freakish pink lights anymore! Yay! Pink is just so not right for Christmas. Now, if only I can keep myself away from the Swiss Colony catalogue for one more day. Then it will be too late to go into debt over spicy meats, cheeses, chocolates, nuts and marzipan delivered to my door. Has anyone else ever ordered gift baskets, etc., from Swiss Colony? Is it worth the high price?

I drool over that Swiss Colony catalog every year (this year being no exception). I've never ordered anything but I'm soooo tempted! Happy that your new tree fits the space and great price! I paid a small fortune for mine a few years ago and it's already falling apart

That's it, they do break and they get worn out with being packed away and then unfurled over and over. Why spend a lot?

That stuff in the Swiss colony catalog is so expensive but good. I do not order from them anymore.

NO, I have never order from Swiss Colony, but I have enough to buy in Switzerland where everything is expensive. Tomorrow I cross the border again, I have to buy prosciutto and ground beef.

Perhaps it is expensive because Swiss Colony is based in Wisconsin. They don't actually import anything, but they do all the decoration and finishing of the confections by hand. The Petit Fours are all done by hand, etc. It's all very beautiful and I wish I could afford to send some to everyone.

@Rollo1 Things made by hand are always more expensive, but they are worth their price. While food imported from Italy and sold two times more it not justified, so I cross the border.

The stuff is expensive, but I would love to be rich and just order something for everyone I know. What a tasty Christmas it would be.

They look very tasty, and I really want to try them, but I think it's just too expensive right now.

their stuff is tasty, but we can all make things cheaper that taste just as good I think. and yeah, the newer fake trees look better each year.

@Rollo1 I don't blame you for not wanting to go to the store right now with the crowds and the traffic.

I can really just go to the store right before Christmas, but I would rather not if I can avoid it.

I found a nice four foot cut tree at Home Depot and called the tree deal done. One strand of lights and a few ornaments. Pretty and homey and done.

Done sounds good. I haven't decorated it yet. But the lights are pretty.

I cannot really imagine ant prepacked selections of food being worthwhile because you are certain to end up with some products that you would not ordinarily buy.

I would not ordinarily buy marzipan, but that's because I know of only one place here to buy it. I do think the prices from the catalogue store are just too high.

I have never bought anything from Swiss Colony but I have bought from some other places like that and I have never been disappointed. That tree you bought at Walmart sounds like a good buy and I hope you enjoy it for a long time.

I'm glad you've found a replacement tree at a reasonable price... and are pleased with it.... I prefer the brightness of our older set of lights ...compared to the newer ones.....

I haven't ordered from the catalog but from your latest post I'm thinking its dangerous to have in the house, Your tree sound nice and I agree pink is not a Christmas color.

That is funny. Here this is the only trees we have available to use. Ones in boxes. I guess mine is now a few years old and this year it will stay in the box until next year. I'm not home to take it out and put it up. Poor little tree of mine is stuffed in a box for ever more.

@Rollo1 It's funny how that happens, that the trees never fit back into the box they came with. As for Swiss Colony, I love receiving this from them. I have sent a couple of special selections but I'm afraid they are a little costly.

I really hate how they never go back in the box. So my husband cut up a bunch of old jeans and made a bag with them and now the tree fits just fine.
