Some people baffle me???

I don't know if I have mentioned this but I work in a prison. I am not sure how much I can say about it without getting in trouble so this story will be brief. I had to confiscate a letter today because it was sent in by someone the prisoner was not allowed to contact. She had got a restraining order out on him and she was sending him letters. That just makes no sense at all in my head. Why would you get a restraining order out on someone and then contact them ?

This sort of thing is sadly familiar. It doesn't matter whether the law is involved, it doesn't matter how smart those involved might be, it doesn't even really matter if they are male or female. Some part of us believes that people can always change for the better and another, more delusional part, thinks that we are the ones who can change them.

That is true I think it is human nature to think we can fix people and to try beyond all logic x

Some people are gluttons for punishment. This person needs help.

@shellyjaneo It would make sense if writing to your abuser like this put you on a list to receive free help from a shrink.

@ElizabethWallace That is a good point actually, I am not sure what will happen now as the letter just goes to security but maybe once I have been there a bit longer I can bring that up. I have loads of ideas of things I would like to change but don't want to get too big for my boots too soon x

Why do people stay in abusive relationships? Why do they divorce and then remarry? Why do people do criminal things? Okay, I've said enough. _____________________ If you like movies you might be interested in The Newton Boys (1998) a story of real people with a real appearence at the end. Strangely enough they never changed their viewpoint or outlook about what they did. Crazy!

@shellyjaneo true and everyone is different with a different life but do you think there might be some basic reasons people freak out? Like unhappy. Or love starvation? Etc.

@Bluedoll I think there are a set of things that make people more likely to freak out and act crazy but it also depends on the persons nature. People can live the same life and end up totally different at the end of it x

My husband also works in a prison. So I have to be very careful what I say about that too.

Yeah I am thinking I probably shouldn't have posted it at all but I think it is vague enough x

@shellyjaneo I don't think that the post gives away any privileged info.

It is hard to feel sorry for people when they reach out to cause themselves trouble.

There are things from any employment situation which shouldn't be discussed publicly. I don't work in a prison but I'm sure I could get myself into plenty of hot water anyway. People do weird things and someone getting a restraining order and then trying to contact that person, while odd, I'm sure isn't unusual. I've seen similar behaviours from others.

You'd have to wonder wouldn't you? Will she be told that her letter wasn't delivered?

No things like that get sent straight to security I don't think either of them will be told. If there was anything else concerning in the letter then they may chose to contact one or the other but it depends on the circumstances. If we confiscate items that come in the post or photos then we tell the prisoner though x

why don't you open and read the contents of the letter? The recipient is a prisoner so I believe he should be watched out seriously.

We do read them for certain people and security would have read this one x

There is no understanding the behaviour of some people. Some women really are crazy, they embarrass me.
