Star Wars Christmas

United States
December 19, 2015 7:16am CST
Since my family is in a state far far away, and the weather there is frightful, I have decided to spend Christmas Day at the theater. I grew up at the same time as Lucas, Spielberg and other genius movie makers. We all watched now classic Science Fiction and Western movies. Star Wars does three things for me. It captures many elements of the old Westerns. It puts them in a Science Fiction setting. Finally, the series takes me back to my childhood, where the good guys always won. So although we need the rain, I am hoping that it won't fall while I am dashing from my car to the theater. Perhaps The Force will be with me. If it is pouring rain, would you go anyway?

We also need rain and I am pretty sure that it's going to rain on Tuesday, when i have some errands to do outside. Good luck to you and may the force be with you.

Christmas seems an odd time for Star Wars. It is more suited to early spring, as in "May the Fourth be with you".

@ElizabethWallace It is actually an old joke and not an original of mine, which I am surprised you have not heard before.

Somehow I am not fascinated with science fiction although loads simply enjoy such movies. Hope rains will not come in your way as you dash to your car to get to the theatre

This does not feel like science fiction. It feels like a western.

@BelleStarr Where you live, of course, but we don't get either. Drivers would freak out entirely.

Where you live people see rain often. Here, we act like we will melt if we get wet.

Funny that you say it was Western themes, because The Man always calls Star Wars a western set in space.. The Boy and his friends went to see it last night. They said it's amazing.

Your Man is quite right. Lucas himself described it that way in an interview.

Enjoy your movie. I prefer Star Trek. My son loves Star Wars . I will most likely end up watching it with him.

I certainly would,...there are some films you've just got to watch on the big screens at the movies with all that enhanced sound equipment too... it all adds to the atmosphere and excitement .... and I like the films fromn that era too...

I am not a Star wars fan although many of my friends are. I have been to a few places where they filmed some of the films although it went over my head. The way you described it was the way some guy explained the films to me. 'Imagine cow boys and Indians well Star wars is similar but set in space'. Enjoy your day there Elizabeth I hope you have a lot of fun.

I usually do. My favorite movies experience was seeing the Addams Family movie. It was like a party with a big group of friends.

Never say "old". Say instead "older". One is a destination, the other is just forward movement.

Yes, I would absolutely still go if it was pouring rain. Just use an umbrella and you should be fine. I hope you enjoy the movie. I've heard great things about it.

@ElizabethWallace This is what they call individual differences. . . I am not very interested to watch this kind of movie . . I am more of the funny stuff.

I hope you enjoyed the film! I can't wait to see it. I hope to shortly after Christmas.

My husband and I just watched a short little "news" item on CNN. Jake Trapper put together all the references to politics in Star Wars. Jaba the Hutt was a government official; Princess Leia as a member of the Senate. There were others, too. It was delightful!
