Setting up a separate Inbox on your email for myLot...

I read a post by @fufurinha in which she bemoaned losing notifications that were a week old because school is taking up so much of her time that she cannot be here to myLot on a regular basis right now. Someone suggested she turn her email notifications back on and she won't have to miss them anymore when myLot automatically deletes those notifications that are older than 7 days. She replied she didn't like her email inbox spammed by so many notifications. I was thinking about that and wondered why she didn't just set up a rule to put all her notifications from myLot into their own Inbox instead of using the regular Inbox and then came to the conclusion that she didn't know how! I decided to help people out and explain what to do to set up an Inbox for the notifications from myLot on the three major email systems: MSN, Yahoo and Gmail. So here they are: A. To set up a folder to receive your myLot notifications if you use MSN email (Live, Hotmail or Outlook) then follow these instructions. 1. Open Outlook. 2. Click the "Settings" button. (It looks like a cog wheel on the top right side of your page.) 3. In the drop down list, click "Manage Rules". 4. Click "New". 5. Under "Create Rule" the box should read "Sender Contains" In the next box type "mylot" (without the quotation marks). 6. After typing this, another box opens. You should: Click the down arrow then select "Move to". 7. In the following box type "myLot" (without the quotation marks). 8. Press "Enter" on your keyboard. Your page should refresh. And you are done! B. This tutorial will explain how to set up a filter in your Yahoo email account to put all emails from myLot into their own folder. 1. Open your Yahoo email account. 2. Click "Mail" at the top of the page on the left hand side. 3. Above your Inbox, click "More". 4. Click "Filter emails like this". 5. Across from "Filter Name" type "myLot" (without the quotation marks). 6. Across from "From" type "myLot" (without the quotation marks) 7. Click "Save" Your screen should refresh and a message saying, "Your filter was set up successfully!" will show for two seconds on your screen. Close your Yahoo email. You're done! C. To set up a filter to send your email from myLot into its own folder when using Gmail, follow these instructions. 1. Open your Gmail account. 2. Click on the "Settings" button in the upper right hand side of your page. 3. Click "Settings" in the drop-down list provided. 4. Click "Filters and Blocked Addresses". 5. Click "Create a new Filter". 6. Type "myLot" into the "Filter From" box (without the quotation marks). 7. In the bottom right corner, click "Create Filter with this search". 8. Check mark "Skip the inbox (Archive it)". 9. Check mark "Apply the label:" 10. In the box, click "Choose label". 11. Click "Create Label" 12. Type "myLot" (without the quotation marks) into the box provided. 13. Click "Create". 14. Click "Create Filter". Your page should refresh and show: The following filters are applied to all incoming mail: Matches: myLot Close your Gmail account. You're done! I do want to thank @jaboUK for testing the Gmail filter for me. Shoot! I just woke up to see everyone hopping in this discussion and I have to leave for my work day! I will be back as soon as I can! I do hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I am pleased to have been your guinea pig, even though I didn't realise it at the time! I have to say that if a non-tech person like me can follow this successfully (as I did), then anyone can. Yaay. It's sooo helpful. I would perhaps suggest putting your headings in bold so that they stand out more easily. Also you have two number 7s on the gmail list

@DaddyEvil I'm pleased that you've changed the headings - it makes it much easier to see where the divisions are now.

I have my notifications set up to go to a seperate inbox in my Yahoo mail since forever and it works perfectly. It works so well that when myLot started paying again and more notifications were arriving, I didn't realise as I was not checking there for a long long time. Had I seen them then it might have caused me to return sooner too.

This is certainly helpful. But I prefer not to get all notifications. I read what I can but I don't want to become a slave of the notifications.

Thank you, M.-L.! Slave, ma'am? If myLotting is that much work to you, hon, then you might want to re-think your online approach to making money! Yeah, I agree, it is much easier to leave the notifications shut down than it is to create an extra Inbox for the myLot notifications to land, but setting up the new Inbox is still easier than creating a whole new email account from scratch! I hope you and your family have a very beautiful Christmas, @maluse !

Personally all notifications from social sites are switched off (either at the site itself) or are sent to spam on the email account if I am unable to switch them off. I have so many social interaction these notifications would drown my email if I didn't switch them off.

@pgiblett For the most part, I can agree with that statement. I have run into a few I am just as happy they don't speak to me on this site, though. One of them I did have to block before he gave up badgering me for something I didn't do... His problem, not mine.

And that is fine by me, sir. And that is the reason for this discussion in the first place... You wouldn't have to have the notifications going to your Inbox on any email you used. You could have them feeding into their own Inbox folders. Merry Christmas, @pgiblett ! My pc just informed me that I have never spoken to you before... Hello! It is nice meeting you!

Mmmm--this might sound silly--why just not cut back posting discussions until the holiday is over which will equal less notifications? Also why not just make a file folder on Yahoo and just move the notifications to that file until ready for it? Have a great day yourself!!

@DaddyEvil As I am not here primarily to earn money I have set my notifications to simply notify me who commented on my discussions so I could get back to THEM!! I limit myself to how much time I spend per day on the Internet because I prefer interacting with LIVE, IN PERSON people! I didn't miss the point of your tutorial--I was just telling you how I would do it.

@GreatMartin Hmmm... I am not here primarily for the money, either, sir. I am here because I was looking for a new home as two of the sites I used were in the process of shutting down. I went looking for a site to call home almost two years ago. (Yes, I was premature on believing both sites were closing down, but it is a good thing I did start looking then because it took me that long to find this site!) I found myLot right after it started paying again, so I joined and started trying to understand the site and what I was supposed to do here so I could invite my friends and help them with the site, too. It turned out many of them already knew this site, but hadn't been here since it had last been a paying site. You have JUST left notifications turned on for anyone talking on YOUR discussions? Have I made it to any of your discussions yet? I don't use myLot like most others here do, so I am never sure if I have been on someone's discussions or not. If I haven't, please tell me that and I will make a point of checking to see what you write about. Thank you!

Because you missed the point of this tutorial, Martin. None of us are worried about getting too many notifications because too many people were answering us on myLot. People are complaining because using the email notifications meant that your Inbox very rarely came up empty and some people want it empty sometimes! The more notifications you receive whether in your email Inbox or in the Inbox you set up for myLot, then the more money you are potentially earning on this site! And again, you missed the point of this discussion, sir. The people do not want the notifications to show up AT ALL in their email Inbox. There are too many notifications for your second suggestion to be readily feasible, either. It would take too much time to sort through all that mail and tediously move those emails to their own folder when you could set up a rule that puts them there automatically for you! I hope that explains everything to you, sir! Merry Christmas, @GreatMartin ! My pc just informed me that I have never spoken with you before... Hello! It is very nice meeting you!

Thank you, pgn! I appreciate that, sir! Personally, I am not one of the people who allows email notifications. I just do my best to keep up with everything! But I have been thinking that maybe I need to re-think my strategy about letting the site send me email notifications, though... I seem to be having some difficulty with a few things lately.... Like that other person's body I am usually wearing every time I wake up in the morning and after I take my nap at my lunch time. I kinda wish whoever that body belongs to would quit trading our bodies until I have been up for a couple of hours. I've been finding my whole body moves slower, as does my brain. I seem to forget things easily during the first couple of hours after I wake up, too! (I have not been enjoying those times, either!) Merry Christmas to you and yours, pgn!

@painsonslate Thank you, pains! I appreciate that! LOL! I can't imagine someone not using their email accounts, ma'am! @DaddyEvil He hasn't been paying attention, I'm good! I have a mac. Needed a new machine and the kids got me one with a huge discount (long story) and I have an iPad too. 99% of those who used to email now text so the email is almost obsolete. I do get an email every once in a while but nothing like before... I try to check it every day and delete mylot notices since I use my notifications all the time. But we are going to leave the house sometime this winter and the email on my iPad will keep me connected to mylot. And I know to look when paypal send me money... Merry Christmas!!!
