Some are trying to be more frugal in the new year and here are some ideas on way to use up the bits of wrapping paper you might have around: 1.Use colorful paper for tray liners for your coffee table or buffet. 2. Decoupage made with bits of wrapping paper. Cut out shapes and have fun using pieces for a collage or use for an accent on drawers and furniture. 3. Homemade envelopes-fold colorful wrapping paper into an envelope and use accent colors or adhesive labels for addresses. 4. Put a cloth over a piece of wrapping paper and gently iron it as you would a garment. 5. Cut your left over pieces into squares and use for origami.

@celticeagle It's a shame to throw the paper and then to have to buy it again.

The only problem with that is most kids simply tear the wrapping paper off and make a mess of it. I could never get my child to open and preserve the paper, like I used to do as a child.

Or, if you tear carefully, you can still reuse the wrapping paper for next year.

@celticeagle We also save the ribbons and bows sometimes (if they're pretty and undamaged). Bows as is never sticks with the adhesive, I always have to put tape.

What the kids do here is make some confetti out of it for new years and throw it around . Not very practical but they do love to do this one.

@TheHorse Yah but here we don't have a shredder so the kids take scissors and cut it up. They put it in old tupes from paper towels and toilet paper and store them in there.

I gleefully watched my daughter carefully unwrap her gifts and smooth out the edges, then folded each piece. She is going to use it for wrapping next year's gifts. Love that girl.

It has to be good quality paper for any of this to work. The paper I used to wrap presents must have been poor quality because it tore so easily.

@celticeagle well, we have some ideas here that we can actually use old newspapers and telephone directories, but tie the gift with ribbons.
