Hi guys In my country our minimum salary is 505 euros. What is a very low salary from what I see in other european countries in the news. Still I would like you guys to tell me please how much is the minimum salary in your country and how much a receptionist earns. I am receiving 550 euros in my job and is a very low salary for the hard job I have. Can you guys please share about the situation in your country? Have a nice day

Perhaps the most important is how much you can buy with such a salary. The cost of living is different at each country. Fruits and vegetables could be cheaper in some countries and so the medical treatments or transport fees as well. In my country is less than in yours, but people earn a little more in average. They look for extra activities in order to get more money. Of course there are countries where people earn better wages and have a higher standard of living.

Ugh! The prices for all foods have gone up here in Canada, and utilities too. We keep arguing for discounts but it's not enough to make much of a difference. I count on rebate money from Air Miles and Checkout51.

@sweetloveforeve As the cost of gas goes up, so does the cost of everything that gets transported by truck. Also, the weather affects the supply which also drives the prices up. We have only just gotten our government to remove taxes from feminine hygiene products.

here food is expensive and also fruit compared to what we receive you know? for example per hour we earn like 2 euros and 50 more or less and if you want to have lunch in a restaurant if is a cheap menu is like 5 euros and 50 cents or 6 euros. and if you go to a normal restaurant is like 15 euros that is what i earn per day more or less.

15 thousand pesos in the Philippines (basic salary). Very low minimum salary for a high cost of living.

That is like $9.5 a day. Not really the best minimum salary but it is decent enough to let a bachelor live a comfortable life. Sadly most people with that salary are married people with 12 kids.

@CaptAlbertWhisker And with that much persons to feed everyday, 15k is not really enough. That's why Philippines is one of the poorest nations in the world.

We do not have minimum salary in our country. It is a free market. The employer can pay as low as $2 per hour, and some migrant workers are earning at this rate. A receptionist can earn just $6 per hour to $3000 a month. It depends on the job scope and the qualification of the employee. Some large companies hire ex-air stewardess and pay them very high salary.

@olivetree27 Official language is English. Singapore is never closed to foreigners, but you need to have a special talent, and you need to get a job before the hiring company can apply for work permit for you.

A salary of 550 euros a day will make me a beach resort owner in 2 years. This is the reason why some Europeans invest money and businesses in 3rd world countries. An upper middle class person in Germany will be a millionaire in Indonesia or Uruguay.

as @sweetloveforeve mentioned, it is about a month and not a day. So @CaptAlbertWhisker it will take 600 years to become owner of a beach resort

The federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour, but each individual state can set the rate higher if they want. Where I live in Florida, it is $8.05 per hour. Whether it's $7.25/hr or $8.05/hr, it's not enough to support a family on. There is currently a push in the US to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour.

It depends where you work. If it is a big company one can earn over US$2000 per month starting pay, but some are paid much less too, less than $1,000 per month in Singapore for jobs that are not skilled - siva

@Shiva49 i think we should waste money with things we really need. and when we are in a good situation we can spend it in jewellery or laptops and cellphones. many people buy a cellphone that costs 800 euros even though they are in a bad situation. is much better to buy a cellphone not as good but live a good life.

Also a person who knows how to save money can have a better life than a person with bigger salary but always act like a one day millionaire.

Is that €505 a month? That is about 2/3 of what I get as a State pension and I think that the level of the State pension here is more or less the minimum the State considers a 'living wage' (it's actually far too little for many people). I am not sure whether there is any minimum monthly or yearly salary but there is a minimum hourly rate. Currently that is £6.70 an hour which works out at £1160 (about €1573) a month for a full-time employment of 40 hours a week.

@sweetloveforeve I suspect that you can actually buy more with your €500 than I could here in the UK. A single person on a salary of £1160 a month here would be hard put to feed themselves after paying the rent, rates and services for accommodation. It is somewhat cheaper, of course, to live as a couple and in some parts of the UK that would be the only possible way to exist on minimum wages.

@owlwings i have a cousin living there and she says that life in england is much better than in here. she has her house paid and her car paid also. and here if you want to buy a house you need to ask your bank to give you a loan and you spend 30 years paying for your house. and your car isnt paid for less than 5 years. sadly we pay a lot for things. for example if i lived on my own i dont know how i would do. because to rent a house isnt less than 300 euros per month. my salary is 550. so 300 for the rent, 80 euros for transports, then i would have to buy food, pay water, gas, tv... i dont know how i would live

In Canada it varies from province to province, and also depends on the job believe it or not. The minimum wage here is $12.00 but if you are a restaurant server it's less because you get tips. Pretty ridiculous. There is talk to raising it to $15 an hour but probably not for another year or two.

@sweetloveforeve Some restaurants insist on the tip money being pooled and divided evenly between all workers. I think that is going to change though. I believe I heard that there was going to be a law against that.

i understand that about tips in restaurants i think its a bad thing. tips should be apart because not everyone gives you a tip. at least where i work rarely clients give me a tip. i receive but rarely and its unfair.

@patgalca i think the tip should be for the person who is attending. because for example if was me i would also split with my colleagues but i know that some people are not serious. for example where i work, a client told me that she gave 5 euros to a colleague of mine to divide for all the receptionists, cause we are 5, and she didnt say anything to us. so then i asked my colleague and she said: oh it was only one euro per person, it was 5 euros not much. do you want the euro? and she started laughing. i said, no dont worry but our colleague that does the night doesnt have much chance to sell trips neither getting tips so you should have given to him. some people are just capable to keep things from themselves even though it was to divide with colleagues. im not capable to do such a thing like she did

Current minimum wage for the US is $7.25 per hour. People outside the states might think this is a lot of money, but it barely covers cost of living.

here we receive like 2.50 euros per hour that is like 3 dollars per hour more or less. its sad but here we also dont have a good life. the predictions for the new year is that the minimum salary turns into 530 euros and until the end of the year make it 600. the problem is that the salary goes up but bills also go up. if they stayed without a raise would be great. but no.

i dont even want to discuss about it as i feel sorry for the people here who earn so low. and also our tax here in Philippines is at 32% which is a complete scam! It is too big and only corrupt politicians are able to spend the money the way they want.

im sorry about that in my country we also have a very low minimum salary and politicians earn fortunes. just an example our minimum salary will be 530 euros now but last year was 505 and we have to pay rent, water, gas, car expenses,tv and internet. a lot of things.and our president earned 10 000 euros per month and didnt pay anything because is house is offered, his car is offered. everything. can you see how in difficulties we are also? :( the world is really unfair.

There is difference in salary in Private and Government sectors. No minimum can be fixed in Private sector, but Govt can fix for Government sector. The new Minimum salary is INR 15,000 in Central Government

@sweetloveforeve There is, some are very less salaried and some are good salaried, however INR 15000 is not a lot (mentioned in photo) By the way, it is only salary, other Allowances are also added which can make actual salary more than double

I don't know the answer. But even if I did, it wouldn't be of any use to you. I live in Germany. Salaries are much higher here than in Portugal but then the cost of living is also much higher. The rent for a flat may cost 500 Euro.

i was just curious. because sometimes we read things that are not true. thats why i wanted to know what is the minimum salary in germany if you dont mind to tell me. yes here our salary is like 505 the minimum but if you are one person and want to rent an appartment you pay like 300 euros so you can imagine our situation.

It also depends on the salary:expenses ratio so your salary might not be enough in your own country but if you go to other country, it will have a higher value. I'm currently working in Europe now and has a salary of 600 euros (500 is the minimum I think), which is high compared to the salary I'll have in my own country but I need to eat, pay for rent, buy clothes and have other bills too and not to mention that I need to renew my permit which also cost money. I also need to save some money in case I wanted to go back in our own country so in the end, I'll end up with an empty pocket. Hahaha! Expenses here is quite low if you're a frugal person but still won't make you rich and I'm still single so I guess it's enough for me but not enough for a married person with children.

In South Africa the minimum wage is 2475 (Rands) for general workers which translates to 165$ per month. The wage is very low.
