Did you know that eggshells are the finest way to look after and even remineralise your teeth, and more, a super source of Calcium and many other necessary ingredients, your bones and teeth absolutely need? So don't toss them in the bin, use them to supplement your diet! Wash and boil the shell of one Organic egg for around 5 mins to kill off any lurking pathogens, allow to air dry, then deposit into your coffee grinder, until it becomes a fine powder. Eggshells contain unique medicinal and extremely beneficial properties, which taken regularly or mixed into a natural toothpaste, can even remineralise, unhealthy teeth. You will need around half a teaspoon a day, either mixed in your 'Smoothie' or other liquid, or sprinkled in your cereal. Want to know what else is in the shells, apart from 93% Calcium? Magnesium,Phosphorous,Silicon,Potassium,Iron,Sulphur and more, like Several essential Amino Acids, Methionine,Lysine,Cysteine to name a few....all goodies that 'Today's diet' rarely give you, but are necessary 'building blocks' to a healthy body. Because the composition of eggshells, so closely resemble our teeth, they are the finest tonic for your dental requirements.... So why chuck them and then go and buy supplements that do a lesser job?

I've been chucking the shells for years - what a waste! Well maybe we should try this and toss out the processed multi vitamins instead!

@much2say You mean the supplements that cost so much and do very little as your body cannot easily assimilate most vitamins and minerals without certain others to link them into your system, like certain Amino Acids and others... which all lurk within eggshells, so do yourself and your purse a favour

Now I have to decide whether to make eggshell jam or an eggshell blancmange.

@Asylum ...or neither! Nothing like a crunch where it shouldn't be for getting the gagging mojo in operation... just put it in your cocoa or clean your teeth with it....always assuming you still have some

@bookbar how amazing is it that something we typically throw away can be so good for you? I had no idea.

@HazySue Could be true of many foodstuffs... we throw the good stuff and eat the rubbish bits.... animals know better, which is why they go for mineral licks and mud

I will tell my husband the next time he complains egg shells got into his food. Well usually the eggshells go in the garden so in the long run some of the nutrients make it back to me.

@paigea Haha just tell him to...just eat your Calcium, specially prepared for you, but I share his pain... a piece of shell in an egg sandwich, does it for me too...

That is the most interesting thing I have heard all day. I'm not sure I can do that though. But a fine powder probably means you don't even notice it. Do you do this?

@fishtiger58 Haven't yet, but that is about to change, as a couple of friends have rated it for teeth problems they had... and getting it to a fine powder is essential for ease of application and ,like me hate anything gritty in my mouth..

Eggsheels are also great to add to potato peelings for plant feeding.

I am wondering though how much nutrients stay in them after they are boiled?

@MALUSE Swansons make a more easily accessed form Natural Eggshell Calcium with Vitamin D-3 in pill form for such things as osteoporosis, if you don't fancy making your own but the powder works well, especially on soft teeth and dentine.

@Poppylicious... Just wondering if I can buy it in finely powdered form, as 'gritty' anything is a pet hate... and not sure I can reduce it to a fine enough powder...without initially investing in a super duper grinder, have to check this out
