Have Not Written All Day

I have read a few of your posts, but not very many. I have not written at all. We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast or lunch--it was a brunchy time of day. Very crowded, and we should have expected it. We went to two nearby lakes before we came home. Hubby had misunderstood which one I thought we should go to, and I fell asleep. That is why we went to both. Hubby wanted to see eagles, as they nest around here in the winter. On the way home we saw an eagle out over a field of cattle and trees. So that made hubby's New Year. I am making spaghetti squash with alfredo sauce, tomatoes and German sausage. We will have that for a meal or two. It is another quiet day for us and that is good. Hope you have started a great New Year in your home.

do not fret.I think that you have not miss too much here.Have not noticed the birds here. But most of them stay in the woods here for the rest of the winter.

We have lots of birds around even when it is cold, but I am in a rural area.

It sounds like you both enjoyed your day together today. And you've done up a nice meal. I did a lasagna and some garlic bread with cheese, followed by a slice of pumpkin pie. That was my husband's favorite meal that he requested to start off the first supper of the year.

Hubby got some Portuguese sausage in his gift box from his sister. He is fixing that today with peppers and onions in red sauce.

The site has been generally quiet today, which is no surprise really.

We had our traditional southern New Year's day supper and we were visited by some relatives who ate with us. It was a good day.

Hubby does not like blackeyed peas which is what I ate as a side, for luck.

@GardenGerty I think lentils would have worked as well. The dish you made sounds great!

It's a wonderful time when you can do the simple things in life and take it one day at a time.

New Years is quiet and relaxing around here. I am trying out my new slow cooker. I know Hawks have been late leaving this area this year, maybe Eagles have been late leaving too.

How wonderful to have eagles in your area - are they the same ones as your national emblem - the bald eagle?

Yes, these are Bald Eagles and they come through at this time of year every year. Until we moved this direction we have not been out to see them. There is a lake, a reservoir and a river with lots of trees around it. Those things are attractive to Bald Eagles, who prefer a diet of fish.

Lovely portrait. That eagle would make my year start right, also. I've had trouble connecting to the internet today so I actually went productive and started puzzling out a poem.

Even though I've been inactive here I'm surprised at how the bank still creeps up a little. I've had a quiet start to 2016 but an enjoyable start all the same.
