Would you like chocolate fries with that?

I saw this on the news this morning and it definitely caught my eye. McDonalds will be testing a 'new' product in Japan. The product is fries with drizzles of white and dark chocolate. These chocolate laden 'taters' will be called McChoco Potatoes and go on sale January 26th. There is a possibility this fries will fail but then again who knows how the Japanese people will take to them. The last time I ate fried food of any kind was in the 80's so I won't be flying to Japan to try them. If you think you might like them don't get your hopes up that they will windup in your local McDonalds. What do you think - will these fries fail the test?

What a odd taste that would be. You never know what will happen.

Maybe over here they will put some pickled seaweed on the fries and test that combination.

I might try these just for the heck of it. Sometimes weird combinations turn out to be really good... maybe these fries will be a nice surprise.

@AbbyGreenhill Sorry for this late reply, but I did actually try these. They were delicious! I know they sound weird, but they were good! I was surprised at how much I liked them. They used both white and milk chocolate and it worked super well with the salt in the fries. I don't know how they do it, but McDonalds Japan has surprised me once again!

@kataomoi Thanks for your follow-up - I wouldn't eat them but only because I don't eat fried food of any kind, due to a bad stomach. Plus I think the world eats too much fried stuff!

Another innovation to test on. I'd rather have the regular fries.

I don't think I'll be a fan of white chocolate or chocolate on my fries. But I guess I'd want to try but not to fly to Japan to try.

@AbbyGreenhill But I'd do like to visit Japan one day. After I overcome my fear of airplanes that is.

@infatuatedbby Years ago the company I worked for did a lot of business with a Japanese outfit. they came over all the time and we actually took Japanese lessons, they were impressed. That's when I was introduced to authentic Japanese food in New York City. That's as close as I'll ever be to Japan - I don't fly either.

There are quite a lot of savoury dishes made with chocolate but I can not see that they will go together to be honest. What are Mcdonalds up to for goodness sake. The Japanese have one of the lowest heart disease rates in the world and yet they are going to feed them this muck. How irresponsible!

McDonalds and greasy fried foods by McDonalds and others have been on the Japanese diet for a long time. Sure, maybe they eat a little seaweed with their fries and not chocolate LOL! Either way - disgusting!

I know it would fail for me as I am just too much of a traditionalist. Maybe the Japanese will love them and I'm sure McDonalds have already put out some feelers. As for it catching on in the West, I can't see it - but than I'm no longer a teenager lol! Blessings.

I am not sure if a teenager would like them - those kids love to dump ketchup on stuff.

This kind of food joints always try to make something new, and sometime weird to keep a steady flow of customers. This might be a similar kind of idea.

I've read about that too, now don't get me wrong, I love Mc Donalds french fries and I adore chocolate. I don't think I would want them combined though.

My grandkids used to dip their fries in their vanilla milkshake. I really don't think the chocolate fries sound appealing at all, though.

Not for me. I know people like salt with sweet but this is going a little too far. Now you have salt, grease and sweets mixed together. No thanks they can keep them.
