An All Nighter!

Our three year old granddaughter is visiting for ten days while her mommy and daddy relax on a tropical island. When she was dropped off on Friday afternoon, we were warned that she seemed to have a cough and a runny nose. Long before supper I knew that this clinging child was really not feeling well. The toys were still in the toy box, the books were still on the shelf, even her precious dollies were still tucked in their cradle. After supper we dosed her with some Tylenol, to bring down her fever and put some Vapo-Rub on her feet for the cough. Then we went through all of her nighttime routines before tucking her into bed. It was an hour later, she was crying. I comforted her, half an hour later, she was crying again. This continued until bedtime (mine). The decision to spend the night in bed with her was an easy one to make. It was a much interrupted sleep. Yesterday, the princess was much better, playing with her dollies and getting a few toys out of the toy box. Still not 100%, but definitely on the mend. We tucked her into bed (hoping for the best). Hurray! She slept all night. This means I awoke feeling rested. I slept all night as well.

It's never easy when the kids are sick. My kids were sick recently, and it was hard to see them out of it. But such is life. They're going to get sick at some point. I'm glad to hear that she's feeling better.

That's bad luck that they dropped a sick kid on you and then left the country.

@Morleyhunt I hope it's safe for her to travel so soon after an accident. And that little princess perks up again soon.

They have had this vacation planned for six months. It's unfortunate that the little miss was coming down with a cold. My daughter was in a serious car accident (I wrote about it in I'm Distracted) just two days before leaving. She really needs this week to recuperate.

It is much easier to have her healthy. We have many appointments to take Opa to this week. I can't imagine dragging a sick child everywhere we need to go.

We've had the grandkids with a variety of ailments. It is natural to worry and do everything possible to make them feel better. I feel your relief!

She was so unhappy on Friday night, it was relief when she was feeling better and in a better frame of mind.

@paigea she's been miss picky about her food. I'm mean. If you don't eat your breakfast...no snacks. Same deal if you won't eat your lunch or supper. We have been getting lots of fluids into her so I know she'll be fine.

Poor little thing. It's tough when they're sick. We do the Vapo-Rub on the feet too, it really does work!

There are some who have assured me that it doesn't work, but we have had dramatic success. There are many more potentially dangerous game remedies people are willing to try.

Other than a sporadic cough and some sneezing that demands instant response, she's back to normal.

She just seemed to have a cold when they left her with me. They will not know just how sick she was until after they return. I want them to enjoy their time away..my daughter also needs some recovery time from the car accident she was involved in on Thursday.

It is a maxing what a good nights sleep does for grandma. She is more patient, more creative, more tolerant....less irritable (it wouldn't let me post the word I really wanted to use)...

Understandable as it is hard for such a young child to be ill and away from her parents, but sounds like she is feeling better and adjusting

Spending time with grandma is a weekly occurrence. She refers to my guest room as her room. Thankfully she is recovering quickly from her fever and congestion.
