She Lost Weight By Eating Sweet Potato Instead of Rice

Our former officemate became fat when she was transferred to another company . I haven’t seen her for about 4 months and was so surprised to see her fat and with a bit of a protruding stomach already . But after some more months , she was back to her slim self. And she said , she substituted her rice with sweet potato instead , to go with her viand . Of course she also cut the portions of what she ate and did some exercising . And she achieved that after 3 months . What I noticed whenever I eat sweet potato in lieu of rice at dinner was that the next day , I really have to go early to the john . Not to mention that the sweet potato is delicious .

Just a small camote each meal . Brown rice is also good , but it's so expensive compared to a kilo of camote which is only about 20-25 pesos .

@Letranknight2015 Yes try it . Buy a kilo , boil them nicely . Then peel them all , slice them and put them in a container and out it at the fridge . At anytime , you have a ready camote . It's delicious to go with a dish even when it's cold . Eat two small ones only and your dish a small portion only .

Yeah, sweet potato does have an effect on our digestion I think white rice is the one that contains more carbohydrates. Brown rice has more fiber, I think. They say it's better and healthier than white rice. If you don't want to replace rice with potatoes or other veggies, go for brown rice.

Sweet potatoes look simple but have great health benefits including 'going early to the john' as they are filled with fibre.

@SIMPLYD Australia is such a diverse country with so many nationalities that it would be hard to say what is our staple food. I would have said meat and vegetables once but that probably isn't so any more.

Yes, try it . It's good for the metabolism too and nutritious . A small one would be enough to fill your stomach like a cup of rice does . The viands should be in moderation too and have some exercise too .

Sweet potato that is bit tasty to.. I hope there would not be any health side effects.. still to stay healthy is the best option. Rice most of the diabetics patients do find a substitute for it.. any how it is better to see a person in normal size... usually I had seen those fat are considered to have some or other sort of health defects even though they do not have much. It seems being fat had made as a symbol of being unhealthy.

That is true . For some people their being so fat could be the side effect of hormonal imbalance or some ailments like hypothyroidism. But for the diabetics , they are advised to use the brown rice . Though , eating should always be in moderation .

Interesting? So do you think it was the switch to sweet potatoes or the exercise and the cutting of her portions that resulted in the weight loss?

I do not have much liking for sweet potato. I love sweet potato leaves more than sweet potato. If you do not want to gain weight and still eat rice, you can try the brown rice. They tend to fill you yet have lesser calories because it is less processed than white rice.

It has lesser calories than rice as what @LadyDuck commented . I think it's sugar content is not that much also because if it does have much then you will get fatter . Though , it should be eaten in smaller portion , and in addition do some exercises and dieting .

@SIMPLYD The sugar content is higher in sweet potatoes, this is the reason why I prefer normal potatoes (sweet potatoes 6 grams of sugar per cup vs 1.7 normal potatoes).

There is a negative side effect with Sweet potatoes though. You will be farting a lot. I had a 6 month sweet potato diet when I was 17 because I was homeless and I runaway from my parents. Oh my all the gas I produced.....
