Live each day as if it is your last!

This morning it was nice and sunny albeit very cold but I was in a great mood when I got to work. We had our usual chats over coffee and then got stuck into my work. I had turned my phone off as I do not like to be disturbed when I am working. I got a phone call from a friend mid morning to tell me some really sad news that one of my friends had died. When I answered the phone I was joking about as usual and then she dropped the bombshell. I am so shocked and upset as I was only talking to her yesterday and can not believe it. She was only 59. I am stunned and even this evening I still cannot believe that I will never see my lovely friend again. I do hate it when you hear the sad news someone has died and so suddenly too. Sometimes life is just not fair. My philosophy about life is to live each day as if it is your last.

This is one of the really bad aspects of getting older, we begin losing friends and family at a depressing rate.

@garymarsh6 the suddenness is a shock but at least you got to talk to her before she passed and I'm assuming it was a good conversation

I don't know why Barry but this one has really shocked me. I was only talking to her yesterday. Nothing appeared to be wrong.

I agree with you. When I was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, I decided that I´d do exactly that. Now the lymphoma is ,fortunatly, on remission, and I have vacations as far as my money can take me betweek the doctor+s appointments.

@garymarsh6 A long time ago, longer than when my cancer showed up, I became awarw that life is a miracle that we do not have for keeps. So we must cherish it ant respect it while we have it.

This. Much as I want to live each day as if it's my last, I can't. I believe that there's a time for everything and more often than not, now is not the time for many things that I want to do because I have more pressing priorities. Someone was dogging me about this, that if I don't do it now, it is possible that I will never get to doing it. He's probably right, but my view is we can die anytime and it can be before we start doing what we want to do. If we don't get there, then it's sad but I also cannot live knowing that I pursued what I want to the point of reneging on my responsibilities. End result: I never felt that I live for today, I keep myself alive for the future.

That is my approach most of the time. I'm also starting to clear much of my stuff so someday. My children don't need to deal with it. ( we are currently sorting through almost 90 years worth of 'stuff' my parents accumulated.

@garymarsh6 yes, but we can't save everything. They have lived in a 2.5 story Victorian home with a full basement. My father is living with my husband and myself in a 2 bedroom bungalow with no basement and no garage. There is only so much stuff you can keep.
