An appointment at last, but not on a Wednesday

My surgeon originally informed me that he would try to push my eye operation through as an emergency, which would be on a Wednesday. Naturally I have been expecting a telephone call for the past few Wednesdays.
Much to my surprise I received a call this morning from him. It seems that he has arranged a slot for next Friday, so at least I have a definite date now.
At least all the sense of the unknown has now been removed. It should prove to be an interesting journey because my appointment has been set for 7-30 AM.
All that I need to do now is to try to avoid suffering a cardiac arrest in the anticipation of what the operation will be like.

@Asylum That's good, for I forgot that you don't drive.

I'm glad that you now have a definite date. 7:30 is wholly before sparrowfart, so I hope that both you and especially the surgeon are both compos mentis at that hour!
I have found that controlled breathing exercises are a great help in calming the nerves before an operation (something like 'breathe in for 3, hold for 3, breathe out for 5'). Don't overdo them, though. Over-oxygenation is not good!
I wish you calm nerves and good luck!

Fear of the unknown is common. I remember a dentist appointment I had. I told my husband I would rather have a baby than keep that appointment.

When I had scary dental procedures planned some years ago, I studied up on them so I'd know what to expect. I would do the same if it were I planning the eye surgery. I like to know what I'm up against, so that I can pray and believe for the best outcome but not freak out if I hear something and not know what it means.

It's going to either be the longest week ever or the shortest or both. I would prefer an early morning appointment as the doctor and crew will be at their best. Good to hear it is on the schedule! That's one hurdle jumped.

@Jeanniemaries That actually remains to be seen because the operation is apparently a risky procedure and could result in a further operation.

@Asylum I know what you mean. I had to see a dermatologist today because I had a bump removed from my ear and the report came back inconclusive. They had to cut out some for another test. Now I'm sitting here with a bandaged, very sore, ear.

Distract yourself by doing something in which you can become engrossed. You know, something that makes time fly by and you don't even notice. Good luck, Barry.

@ElizabethWallace Stripping my computer down to individual components seems a drastic way to occupy my attention.

@Asylum You like computers. Take one apart or download some complex software that would make the rest of us nuts.

Your heart will not even know about the anxiety you have gone through if you have treated it well.
