Why Don't Kids Listen?

On St. Paddie's Day, my daughter (46) and I had a conversation about her going out and partying on that evening. I told her there were too many nuts out on that night and she and her boyfriend (45) should just stay home and have a glass of wine or two. Did she listen? Nope. They hit several bars and while at one of them, encountered a couple of guys in their 20's/30's that were rude and were swatting the butts of some of the other female patrons. My daughter (with her big, drunken mouth) got in the face of one of those guys and he pushed her. She literally body-slammed the guy to the floor and the fight was on. Her boyfriend got involved with the other guy and before you know it, 3 guys were beating him up. My daughter got bruised up and the boyfriend went to the hospital with 5 stitches to the head and a fractured collar bone. That whole fiasco could have been avoided had she listened to her Momma.

Oh Nanette, I am so sorry, but you cannot pretend that she listen to you at that age. In our days they do not even listen when they are teenagers.

At 46 the daughter already had her own ideals and listening to mom wasn't one of them I wonder what happed to Nanette, she hasn't written anything in a long time.

@rebelann I also wondered what happened to Nanette, it is a very long time that she is not around and she was not very well.

Yup booze can make otherwise intelligent people to just act so stupid. All involved are lucky they are not sitting in jail this morning.

I don't entirely agree. I bet the guys grabbing butts and pushing a woman were not "intelligent" types. They're more likely to have "graduated" from Joliet or Deer Lodge than University of Illinois or Harvard.

@TheHorse I just watched a frightful documentary about college rapes. On many many campuses across the country including Harvard and Yale, among other prestigious universities. Most but not all fueled by booze. The name of it is called The Hunting Ground

@fishtiger58 Booze can be a problem. I'd have to see the documentary before I commented.

I think a 46-year-old woman should know better w/o anyone giving her advice.

@nanette64 It seems to be at that age there should be more common sense. Oh well, maybe she learned a lesson?

Believe it or not @jaboUK , my mom was a very smart woman and I did take her advice; alot. The only time I didn't was when I married 'the idiot' and you see where that got me.

I know, right @hostessman ? She's been doing a lot of strange things lately. Joined a motorcycle club, bought a Harley, her financial situation is in the toilet, she's pushing family away. Talk about a mid-life crisis.

I play music in bars but otherwise avoid them. You're right. She should have listened to mom. Or just called the police on the young idiots.

@nanette64 I get more friendly and conversational when I'm imbibing. I think those who do bad things have a lot of pent up anger or frustration.

@TheHorse When I used to work in the bars, it was mandatory that you drank; whether you were one of the dancers, waitress or bartender. 99% of the time I was a good girl but every now and again, well....

Is your daughter 46 years old? Then obviously she has to learn her lessons herself. At this age , it is painful to advise and listen to advice. I agree we had listened to our elders even at that age but nowadays things are different and we need to just pray and keep quiet.

That is the high price of not listening to you. I hope they will listen from now on. But first and foremost, I pray they will both be well soon.

It's going to take awhile for him to heal @salonga and my daughter; considering just last week she had a motorcycle crash incident, didn't need to add this to the mess.

I told her if she didn't listen to me that experience was going to be the best teacher and she ain't gonna like what the outcome would be @crazyhorseladycx . It could have been her that had the stitches in the head, fractured collar bone and a blown out eye socket instead of him.
