Offering A Chair To Someone

Today an old couple rode the bus with us and unfortunately the bus was packed. I felt sorry for the old woman so I offered my seat to her even though she declined I insisted. The lady sitting next to me saw what I did and decided to offer her seat to the old man as well. It was a long way towards my stop but standing feels good knowing that the elders are well seated. For me, chivalry is not dead. It should never be dead.

Plenty of reasons, some are maybe tired yeah and some maybe suffering too. Others just don't think it's necessary or probably they believe in equality too much. And there are actually some who wish to help but are too shy too offer. Or they wish to help but they've experienced offering help and the help was not accepted and they got embarrassed.

@MGjhaud True. It's better to offer even though the offer was rejected. It's the thought and the sincerity that counts. Sharing is not a bad idea as well. If the seat is big enough.

We also do the same thing here in the Philippines. It is an old practice that letting the elders to be offered a seat. But the sad thing, some youngsters cannot do the same thing anymore.

@Shavkat True. We have a beautiful culture. If only everyone follows it by heart. The thing is kids nowadays think that being "less Filipino" is cool and hip. I don't know how this came to be.

I'm 100% born and raised in the Philippines. Heyya! Yeah it's in our culture to respect and value elders. I hope it don't die out. It's a very good practice. Let's serve as good examples to the young ones.

@flapiz I will take the chance of knowing you as Filipino. I guess the youngsters need to be re-oriented about our culture.

That is nice to know that a lot of people still believe in good old chivalry. I'm beginning to think that society is becoming a bit stoic when it comes to the needs of their fellow beings. Good going mate

It was very kind of you to offer the seat, I think they have priority anyway according to the bus regulations. I always give my seat to pregnant women too.

They are supposed to have their priority seats on the bus as well but someone has got it occupied. It's nice to do something nice for others once in a while. It makes my heart smile.

It happens most of the time in India as buses are the major public transport source It always fels so good when you offer a seat to the needy may be a old person or a pregnant lady or a person carrying a baby or a handicapped person when such small helping makes u feel special imagine what would happen when you do that more often that you could it would be eternal happiness ''PRICELESS''

Well said. Yes those simple things go a long way. It's not such a big sacrifice but to the person who received the deed it is a great help. Plus they'd feel valued and cared for. It's truly priceless.

Indeed mate. I mean how can other people stomach seeing an old fragile lady standing? It could be dangerous. Her knees aren't that strong and her grips not as good as when she was younger either. She'd be at risk for falls and injuries. Standing up is just a little sacrifice to show we care for our fellow beings.
