Test in Mylot ?

India
April 1, 2016 3:09am CST
Recently you saw a post from Owlwings -- Mylot is Hiring... After seeing the number of responses it got, feels like it would be a hard task to filter out the application forms. So would you like to have a test in Mylot ? I know each applicant has a great way of expressing themselves and most of them were with mylot since 2006. Many got experience in Moderation as well. But still I feel like -- Lets make it fair for everyone. What say? Creating online test papers are not that costly I have checked it. And I can really afford it But are you ready for the challenge ? What you think is it to be a great idea ?

As you say, there are many members still around who were here 10 years ago. Nevertheless, the job of moderator would require far more than simply time spent on such a site. The three most important aspects in my opinion would be attitude, understanding of the system and a conscientious approach.

@UR_Forever_Raja As we both know, it is foolish to offer such information without knowing for certain.

I agree with all the points you mentioned. Honestly I was not at all praising on experience thing, because I have seen 2 users so far -- who joined before me and explaining earning algorithm wrongly.

@Asylum I am getting older day be day.. So I am trying to stay away from commenting on newbie post after a failure of remembering the new FAQs

I have often thought that a short 'driving test' for new members would be a great idea and I did make a discussion about that a while ago. It didn't seem very popular, however.

I'm curious how the "driving test" would come out. I will search for your discussion regarding this "driving test".

I have seen other sites that have adopted that philosophy. I imagine it would help weed some out, though it could weed out the good (but not so patient) few.

@owlwings Sorry if I copied the idea, I was not here for past few days... Is it possible to link it to me ? Driving Test I have seen it - While registering a site you will have to go through a kind of multiple choice questions. Which actually describe your mentality for joining and how much you know about the site. I saw 60 responses on your post feels like it will make administration difficult to sort and chose correct applicant. So may be this is the way out. I am not sure though

'You' can really afford it? So 'you' would prepare the test? That would include making you coffee too I guess, right?

Do you mean a test for the applicants to the mylot moderator job? I think it would be a great idea.

@owlwings Hmm... that would be interesting. That would mean that everyone would be given the chance to apply for the job as moderator.

@mammots Honestly I was thinking about applicant but Owlwing's idea is great as well, in that way every member will have idea of terms and conditions. @owlwings I think it would be great to share the answers of all questions after exam so that in that way they all will read what needs to be done here

I am a terrible test taker so I do not want a test for any reason! I hope your just talking about interested moderators.

Personally, I think tests are nonsense. They don't judge a person's knowledge and a person who memorizes something only to prepare for the tests is specially unsuited for the job. Tests should not be at the same time and on same topic. Like it can be random questions. One candidate could be writing about heart another person could be writing about leg, not everybody writing about heart. lol.

@Owlwings has written a post on this site, Raja? Are you talking about the world famous Owlwings? Or is this some impostor and you are dropping his name because you hope it will draw more people to your discussion? How will we KNOW which you are doing? (I have seen questionable things you have done in the past, you know! Hmmm... Dancing at your graduation (at least that is what it is called here) was surely one of the most questionable things I have ever seen a man do, let alone you!)

@UR_Forever_Raja Hmmm... If you want a pair of the hardcore binoculars, you don't need to rent mine... You can buy your own pair! I believe I paid $1 (US) for the binoculars... Granted, it cost me considerably more than that to bribe your cousin into sending me a full length video of you "dancing" at your graduation, but I considered $5 (US) a fair deal once I watched the first two minutes of the video and saw what you did to your friend while "dancing"! (Has he forgiven you yet? If not, I suggest you wait another five years and ask him for forgiveness again! It will take a while until his father stops bringing that up at the dinner table every night, you know!)

That was a great first para But it wasn't that great then what your hardcore binoculars can do. Can you rent them Let me see what you did earlier

An online test or exam as suggested by @UR_Forever_Raja is a great way for Admin to make his shortlist of applicants.

Yeah, why not? Anyone who's interested in becoming a moderator should take a test. And I think some observation of their activities here wouldn't hurt.
